No, it's not because Apple did it, it's because of business pressure by stakeholder factors such as the right to repair movement. At least Xiaomi has always been more repairable according to IFixIt.

AnonD-994853, 23 Nov 2021Good. What about self repair for software bugs? Xiaomi fans will just tell you to install custom ROM 😀 cowardly reason, because that just shows MIUI is inferior. Then fans jump in and say we hate Chinese brands when in fact only Xiaomi is the problem here and not ex. Oppo etc.

And it's okay to admit that xiaomi copied something from other company. Since majority of people including myself know that xiaomi are always copying good thing from other companies like samsung and apple.

AnonD-994853, 23 Nov 2021Good. What about self repair for software bugs? surely that would be a means to download a fresh copy of the current os system, then flash.

Self repair isn't something apple introduced , but it is a result of the right to repair movement.
And if this gives users the choice of going to a repair shop or doing it themselves , then thats great.
It's all down to availability of compatible parts / components.
It's easy to offer a service in name only, but they need to make sure the everyday user can access such materials , and I am not talking about just apple or xiaomi but companies as a whole.

There is already a research about how many people are actually repair their phone by themself. Its only few than 5% of all smartphone user. Majority of smartphone user still prefer to professionals to repair their phone. What apple and xiaomi did with this repair program are actually just more about PR Stunt.
