The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is the first 5nm chipset for Windows-on-ARM laptops, 7c+ Gen 3 tags along

01 December 2021
Both chipsets offer fast 5G and Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, the option for fanless designs and battery life measured in days.

SamsungRules, 02 Dec 2021Nice but I don't think it will match Apple in any way,... moreApple's GPU is pretty terrible. It's on par with Qualcomm's. So, the Exynos with RDNA2 is going to deliver very different options than a processor optimised for synthetic numbers crunching.

TheLastOracle, 02 Dec 2021If the previous generation chips could compete with Snapdra... moreLol lower end i7, if you are comparing scores through geekbench, then you should know that they are completely different platforms and that benchmark favours to SOCs

HaterzSuckkkkk, 02 Dec 202185% CPU and 60% GPU performance increases are very, very go... moreIf the previous generation chips could compete with Snapdragon 888 or other top end chips, this would decimate the M1 and all laptop chips. But, the previous generation chips would lousy, so the improvements may be good enough for midrange laptop chips. Which should be comparable with i5 and maybe lower end i7 chips. Though, why is the GPU such a disappointment, is a mystery.

No mention about which type of ARM Cortex CPU is used though. If it now moves to Cortex-A77 CPU or higher, then this is definitely a welcome upgrade.

HaterzSuckkkkk, 02 Dec 202185% CPU and 60% GPU performance increases are very, very go... moreYes, I agree and add the upcoming exynos chip, this would be a 3 way battle. Hoping mediatek will step up and commit their promise to have the 9000 to be an Arm v9 ready. I guess that companies will now have the capabilities to compete with ipad pro

They said the new naming is not complicated
                They lied

Ok good now compile some X86 to ARM

Finally, we'll see Chromebooks getting some much-needed performance boost from the newest 7c+ SoC.

I'd assume both of the chipsets' CPUs are based on Cortex-X1 / A78 microarchitecture which are pretty powerful. However, the availability of the previous gen is still scarce. 7c+ Gen 3 would be the sweet spot for affordability and power.

This all means nothing without knowing which cores are in it and whether or not they will still be "good" by the time products with these SoCs come to market. The 7c Gen 2 is just finding its way into devices in 2021 with A76 based Kryo 468s. ARM v9 cores and getting into devices fast will make a world of difference. Being 2 or 3 generations back is not a good look. I'm sure Qualcomm is working with manufacturers, but they need to take a very active role to ensure products get to market while the performance is still relatively good.

                            Ok that's really some S T U P I D naming scheme.

85% CPU and 60% GPU performance increases are very, very good news.

Now, windows on ARM devices can finally stand a chance against the M1.

Nice but I don't think it will match Apple in any way, that being said I am waiting for Exynos with AMD arm chip for Windows this will be interesting. Proper fight against Apple M1
