iPhone is dead, long live the iPhone 3G!

09 June, 2008
That title up there might be a bit misleading since the first gen iPhone is not at all dead - firmware 2.0 is just around the corner now. But Apple have just announced the new harder, better, faster, stronger...

Never been Iphone fan, but, objectively, 3G Iphone is a major disappointment. Why? First off, you end up with the same lame 2Mp camera. By no means I'm saying that 2Mp is bad, what I'm saying is that a phone that is striving to be a Number1, the phone of all times could do way better than 2mp. Secondly, why Apple is so quite about video capability of the phone's camera? Hmmm. Knowing Apple -- not that I'm an insider or something -- I think that pretty much means that no video recording this time around, folks, unless, of course, you want to hack your phone. No VoIP support? Most probably, yes, again, if you don't want to hack your phone. ATT? 199? Expect two years of slavery and it's all for what? For 24% share of the date use. I think ATT are scratching their heads and realizing that after all this is probably not the best deal they came up with. Also, no major hardware change -- pretty much the same phone. At $199, I guess, every other person out there will have an Iphone, so much for the uniqueness.

Anyway, my friends, Apple is screwing everyone with their iphones and ipods, and all we do is happily watch Apple dictating what to like, what to touch, what to listen to. Anyway, I'm really glad Apple isn't in the food industry -- otherwise, we'd all long be eating food pastes from tubes.

Where's the MMS'ing? Voice dialing/recognition? Does the camera have auto-focus? A light? Is there flash? An I listen to XM radio through there website? I'll go with the mirad of "iPhone competitors" before I buy a phone missing MMS'ing and voice dialing/recognition, let alone I can't change out my battery & there's no removable media.

              So...wait, that's it?
Never had an iphone and never will, like I have always been saying, it's for people who don't really know anything about phones and just think it's cool and looks good. I had an ipod touch and add lots of apps, but sold it in 2 weeks because it was boring, what difference would an iphone be, since only difference was calling/texting, and last time I checked that wasn't much fun lol...

i was keeping an eye out for this "sort of" but after reading specs its nothing to shout about,, no multimedia enhancements in cam department so its still limited to apple fans,,by that i mean its no use to us who use it for the video record/camera snaps for capturing those moments on spur of moment,,its nothing against i-phone its got all the other good things about the i-phone it just limits its ability to appeal to a wider bunch of people

guys we shouldn't be nerve yet, it's obvious apple wants to emulate htc on launch style, bringing the touch pro about a month later after diamond. 3g iphone with front facing camera and an even 5mp might be on the way. htc touch pro is the best pda ever in mobile phone history.

We bet you've guessed it that there's no way that these prices are SIM-free - you will most probably have to enter into a long-term pricey contract with one of the approved carriers in order to get it.

$199 for 8GB, $299 for 16GB is the price for the iPhone with an AT&T contract.

Still no MMS?! And who knows when the phone will be hacked so it can work on any network.
But I still won't be able to understand why they don't add MMS. I'm sure they can. It's simpler than e-mail.
They probably want to release a new version every year w/ new features so people will buy their new version, hoping for MMS.

With that price point, Apple will sell the living crap out of this phone. As I own a few wireless shops that sell a competing brand other than at&t her in the States, I hope that so many people get it that it becomes played out.

While I agree with what most of you have to say about the 3G version being more evolutionary than revolutionary, I do believe many of you are missing some very important aspects of apple technology. Part of what makes the iphone so attractive (beyond the hardware) is iTunes! The ability to buy, download, and very very easily sync all your media with your computer is something Apple KILLS the competition with. I've had most every high end model from Nokia (n-82 and 95) and Sony (k850/w960) and a few windows mobile devices and none of them can or will come close to the software support apple products enjoy. FURTHERMORE, the Apple SDK pack, which allows any developer to design and sell (or offer for free) their own iphone applications is incredible!

Like I said, while I agree with many of you on the hardware issues, there is MUCH MUCH more to Apple technology that that. I'd seriously like to know who thinks there is an easier, more simple, and LEGAL way to get the most high quality up to date audio, video, and internet capabilities on their phone than what Apple offers?
