MediaTek benchmarks the Dimensity 9000: faster CPU than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, slower GPU

17 December 2021
Not by much in both cases - the two chipsets perform within 15% of each other.

With 16 cores, thermal throttling will be a huge pain, especially when paired with another power hungry part of the SoC (the Cortex X2 cores). Maybe with smaller than nanometer node, it could be possible.

              Imagine if mediatek uses a 20 core gpu, but unfortunately mediatek doesn't seem to care much about gpu, because the highest version of their chip only uses 10 gpu cores, although there is an increase compared to last year's chip using a 9 core gpu {dimensity 1200}

                            Will Mediatek start being more friendly to custom ROM developers by releasing their firmware? If not, we can only hope Qualcomm wakes up, because if more phone manufacturers pick Mtk chipsets, the custom ROM options will shrink.
                            Please don't waste your time telling me that this or that custom-ROM supporting phone akchually has a Mediatek SoC. Exceptions don't make for a lot of choice.

                                  Woahhh that GPU score is unreal, a substantial improvement compared to the previous generation. Exynos 1080 in the vivo X60 that included a G78 MP10 managed 139 and 91 FPS in Manhattan 3.0 and 3.1 respectively so it's 71% better. I can't imagine how it'll be with 16 cores. Then again, there's a possibility it's clocked very high. If it doesn't throttle, this could very well be the best mobile chipset for gaming. 2022 is looking to be the fiercest battle yet of performance metrics.

                                        I bet a chinese maker will show antutu score when announcing phone with this chip.
                                        So pathetic this.

                                        Chip makers every year claim 20-30% stronger and 25% less power used.
                                        But when we buy the phones we never see this.
