Glass is more premium. Looks and feels great. Plastic isn't bad but it isn't for flagships.

When I bought my first full glass phone (A5 2016) I had to watch out where I lay it down or how I hold it as it was WAY more slippery than a phone with a standard plastic case... I don't care if it's "premium" or "flagship needs to be glass" or anything, a plastic case just has more sense to such a device (and not to mention that lots of people just put it in a PLASTIC case anyway)

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2021LOL. Obviously, you haven't tried it. Glass scratches, too.Obviously YOU haven't tried it. No, it doesn't scratch from keys, coins or even razorblades. Yeah, I've actually tried it with razorblade, screwdriver and keys. Did absolutely nothing to the glass. One would also expect you've watched JRE's videos where he uses such every day items to showcase abuse. They do NOTHING to the glass. But carve plastics like butter. It's how he always makes his drawings with razorblade in plastic backs of phones.

Go on, rub it just a bit at your stupid overglorified plastic. It'll look like you took sandpaper at it. On glass it'll just get bunch of micro scratches only visible at certain angle and even that barely.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2021Superior would be titanium or ceramic... glass sucks. No it's not. Titanium is actually rather soft metal and even if it's alloy it'll still be very soft. About on par with stainless steel. Ceramic is actually more brittle than plain glass.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2021I don't see why it's bad.You paid big money to have what low end phones have. Rather than something more premium feeling.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2021Grab your house or car keys or just a coin and drag it acro... moreHow about rubbing it in sand and let see if your glass smartphone won't scratch. People started putting their smartphones in a case the moment smartphone makers started using glass because people do know glass is fragile, and it scratches and shatters. Give it a rest. You are on the other thread arguing over glass vs plastic.

First I didn't like plastic back on flagship device. But when I tried S21 in store - I immediately liked feel and even look. It definitely won't break as easy as glass, not to mention much less smudges. If I had an S21 I would carry it without case. Both materials have their advantages and disadvantages but it would be nice to have an options. I'm not happy that in S22 Samsung returned to glass back. There are tons of glass back devices on the market - all are equally heavy, fragile and looking like twins...

make, 20 Dec 2021"Glass feels nicer and is more durable than plastic.&q... moreGrab your house or car keys or just a coin and drag it across your plastic phone. Come on. Do it. I can take a razorblade and drag it across my glass one with full force without worrying. If it can survove that I'm not going to worry about key, coins, wooden desks or pockets. Which happens more often, scratches or cracks? Also bulls**t on "easy" replacement. If it's glued together which it usually is you'll just crack the screw joints or deform it with a heat gun. Buy your crappy plastic budget phones and leave glass to us who want actual superior materials that don't wear from most casual use.

make, 20 Dec 2021"Glass feels nicer and is more durable than plastic.&q... moreExactly. They're smoking some really good stuff to sat glass is more durable than plastic.

I actually wished plastic did make a comeback. The soft or matte plastic finish. This means we might get removable batteries back. But everyone is on the planned obsolescence stage that crApple helped spearheaded with their iPods that had no expandable storage and sealed batteries. Then iPhones brainwashed even more people with poor, less practical choices to push us to upgrade every few years.

                              "Glass is glass....."

                              Wise words by jerry

I don't know why anybody cares what the material on the back would be when 90% of people just buy a case for it? At some point, who cares?

I didn't want the Razr 5G to be polished granite because it had a glossy back but it didn't stop me from buying it because I knew I would cover it up with a case. Even the color doesn't matter any more if you buy a case.

Got the boring black Flip 3 which is fine because it's a matte finish and I bought a case for it. Actually buying boring black looks great with cases since it matches perfectly since most cases are black and black matches well with any color.

durable? HAHAHAHAHA what are you guys smoking and can I have some? I mean sure plastic can scratch, but unlike glass it DOES NOT CRACK, and is SO MUCH easier to replace if needed, or opened up. feeling nice is pointless argument since 98% people use some sort of case anyway, because guess why, glass is super fragile and WILL crack.

Anonymous, 20 Dec 2021Do glass backs shatter with a case on? I‘ll see how mine go... moreNo. It's basically impossible to shatter glass with case on the phone. I've dropped some of them without case and they didn't shatter. There was a dent on the aluminium frame on one to a point it actually bent the display glass which I just bent back and it was fine. When I dropped glass phones with case, all it happened was some scuffs on the case and that was it. I was using regular, thin transparent TPU case.
