I do not normally post on line, however I do look at this website once in a while, sad what has become of the mobile phone industry and more so Blackberry.
For sake of clarity some people are saying their Blackberry still works, anything below 7.1 will not work, Sys 10 will work.
B.I.S being Blackberry Internet Service was shut down on Jan 4th, all of a sudden Blackberry pulled the switch and all over the planet 100's of thousands of Blackberry phones stopped working.
This is how Blackberry thank people for their loyalty, historically the carriers would charge about an extra 5 for B.I.S and Blackberry made about 2 a customer.
Seemingly Blackberry decided those 2's are no longer cost effective.
Yes Blackberry is old, however purely for Email Blackberry Sys 7 is still the best email client.
Not everybody is a buffoon that wants to press a coloured button with Like or Follow.
Blackberry could not care less about loyal customers.
They could not even be bothered updating the software on 7.1 and below so it would work without B.I.S.
Sad, Blackberry along with Motorola, Curtis and OKI 900's were iconic, now all Blackberry care about is money.
100 of thousands of phones stopped working due to Blackberry's greed.
    Terrible societal indictment.

I'd like to point out some facts:
      1. every major mobile system we know works/is controlled from USA
      2. every alternative to iOS and Android, had their own fan base which bought enough phones to justify the continuance. yet they didn't continue.
      3. Many android makers are far weaker today, than the last of Symbian and Blackberry OS phones in terms of sales, yet the Android phone makers didn't close down. Examples: Lava, Micromax, etc.
      4. Every phone phones home today, even though its not needed for a phone to function.

Privacy destroyed as we knew it, even though we never did anything illegal or wrong.
      Disrespect to USA. Seriously.

I still miss the physical QWERTY key pad and the security support of BB that had given a good service. Hope it will come back in market with current trends and its physical QWERTY key pad .

I love Blackberry Phones since 2011. It has unique keyboard touch response to swipe along with the screen. And the design and security of Blackberry Phones are Awesome.. As we go with the time, Blackberry phones are vanished along with the time. Thanks Blackberry for all your efforts.

I guess it was the pricing that failed BB amidst the great competition during that era. Given being less popular OS then, the hardware still charged at flagship price. If BB were to reduce device prices greatly, it may turn the tide while transiting to Android OS. Even its Android devices were in no way cheap given the spec, it was destined to fail.

Out of the myriad of phones I had over the years, I actually look at the Passport with the most nostalgia. I loved that phone. For all its quirkiness, it was actually very useful and good. I remember that at some point I was hoping they would actually release the exact same thing, just running Android. The Priv simply dod not have the same magic for me, and I ended up cancelling my order in the last minute. the KeyOne was actually a very pleasurable experience for me, and I don´t get why it is not t least mentioned here in this article?

Gone are the days of privacy in the mobile world. Everything is being tracked and everyone's data is being sold to the highest bidder. RiP BlackBerry. If there was something like it today, it would make billions.

Hope your 'moderator' is not too 'radical'

Wow, somehow someone missed the bus.....an unlocked Z30 is still calling, texting, emailing, taking pictures, .....yup....BBM and the BlackBerry insignia are gone...and navigation maps don't work...shame....GPS and compass and WiFi still work...oh and up to now Adobe Acrobat and Browser still work...Well, maybe they will disappear, but hey, I have a funny feeling that this machine is indestructible...until the battery wears out...so...don't believe everything you hear, and maybe only half of what you read

I had heard a product similar to Blackberry was under development but am not sure

So sad. The Priv was the best phone I ever had.

When it died I tried the Titan, but just not the same.

I've had to get uses to life without a keyboard and I still don't fully like it.

Thanks for all the thumb clicky-ness BB.
