Well in 20 years there will be more than 5 os. And why would the government want to create an in-house os.

KKKN, 27 Jan 2022new OS or new Skin? iOS from linux and Android from linux. ... moreYou gotta be kidding. You need to do research about iOS before you post your non sense comment.

And will still be based on Linux which will only rely on the poor quality of Android Apps. Not to mention of not supporting GMS. Pass!

Anonymous, 26 Jan 2022Google and Apple don't run the country, so there'... moreMan oh really???
                    Do you think so???
                    Because i dont.
I clearly see in near future India like China did wiill ban american related apps and will prohibit all citizens from having a phone with different OS than the one they trying to develop.
They dont need to force anyone they just need to write some new laws for that.
If china and India will use own OS then 1/3 global population will have to forfeit android or IOS. Maybe they will stick to a lot better harmony who knows.
Lets see and witness how this ends.

Step-by-step, that's what should happen. There is no way any OS can compete with big players in short time.

I appreciate this decision of Indian Government. If they succeed i will definitely try that software. Competition is healthy and good for consumers and businesses. How many actually think of doing this, its definitely a bold step. I think there is definitely talented people who can help. If they can produce talents like Satya Nadella (Microsoft CEO), Sundar Pichai (Google CEO) etc, they can definitely succeed. I mean these big giants have recruited Indians in top positions must have seen something in them which is not present in the rest of the world.

                            Nice Joke

Even Huawei is using some code from Android to run apps on harmony os. India government won't succeed

If Indian govt seriously wants to develo new OS then its highly likely that they might get successful irrespective of Global lobbies.

Recent example of this is The arrival of Rupay Transaction Cards in india.
Despite absolute domination & lobby of Visa/Mastercard Indian govt backed Rupay card.& The result is within few years it holds 85% of Debit Cards in India.

So if Govt of India really takes the lack of Homegrown OS issue seriously then its higly likely we shall witness the dawn of New OS in India.

[deleted post]I'd assume that the 'in-house' here means only for govt or defence use cause it's hard to release it for public and harder to maintain it overtime

Doubtful. Others have failed. And it's not even because it can't be done. They get sloppy, cheap, and lazy.
Like samsung. They had a really good base and idea with bada and tizen. They also have all the resources they needed.
But they were lazy and cheap and let things slip away.
