If only they found a way to let people play mobile legends or dota 2 on PS. This is still useless.

Anonymous, 02 Feb 2022I find it a bit odd that we're suddenly in such shorta... moreYou obviously don't understand how the supply chain works. You mostly answered your own question in your comment: Jobs. You said people would have been buying more cars/consoles/phones/etc before the pandemic because they had jobs. This is not untrue, however, you have to have people work jobs in order to produce the stuff that people are buying. That's why there wasn't a shortage before the pandemic. During the pandemic, workforce cuts and pauses were MASSIVE. This massive lack of work translates to a massive lack of product to sell.

There are some other factors involved here, but the jobs situation is a huge one.

Sony's declining mobile business isn't surprising. They always overpriced their phones for at least a decade when the name Ericsson stopped being attached to their phones. It's their PS5 sales that's a bit surprising.

Covid really affected production but it could be also be just less interest for home consoles. The Xbox S/X is selling nearly as many as PS5s but those are record numbers for them and disappointing sales for PS5. Xbox is neck and neck with PS this gen.

Personally, I'm just waiting when PS5 reaches down to $300 levels. I got my PS4 from an LG G5 / Sprint deal that gave me $100 off it at Best Buy. So my $200 PS4 purchase from 5 years ago still looks like a bargain as I see PS4 prices going up because the PS5 shortages.

The only Sony product I really liked is the sony's XB series Bluetooth speakers. They are great.. better than JBL.. but phones, TVs.. cameras.. I don't know why they charge a premium.. In my country a 4k sony OLED TV is 150% the cost of a LG TV.. with much inferior specs.. not to mention they take ages to launch the next model.. coming to their smartphones... I have used their 2 smartphones and they were Xperia tipo and xperia ZR(mainly because of their IP rated ADverts) and I never ever dared to touch their phones again. They were over priced and a total loss. I am sure if they hire a mid level phone enthusiast like me.. They can make better phones in no time

kek, 02 Feb 2022To prevent monopolies. All those Chinese brands are basical... moreSony Mobile failed because the company over price their phones. Chinese companies or government has never been responsible for their failure rather they brought competitions to the business. Look at Xiaomi or Oppo what they have brought to mobile business and I'm expecting Sony to raise above what they are doing on their mobile section to be competitive among others

Had Z3. It was so good that I kept it like a baby. No any single scratch. Sony was better than Samsung. Not anymore. Now Samsung is much better than others. It isn't laggy anymore. But I like Sony products. My Sony headphones work fine. Will buy again.

The Xperia Pro-I was released in December last year, and the S22 will be released soon. If the Xperia Pro-I II will be released in March 2022, it can be somewhat competitive, but it's not going to happen. Sony needs to fix this ASAP.

If that's the main issue, then all the fanboys of non-Chinese brands should be one big happy family. But I don't see that either. I don't see Apple fanboys & Samsung fanboys & Sony fanboys getting along with each other at all.

Aside from them, you only have Apple (USA), Samsung (South Korea), and a few other small players like Asus (Taiwan), Sony (Japan), HTC (Taiwan, but almost dead) and Google (USA).
Losing LG, even with their slow updates policy, was a big hit to the market equilibrium and options.

But I dont expect anyone in here to understand or look into that, since people are more into the mindset of "Save money today, worry not about tomorrow".
