Well this is agreat move but will be and it is very costly.
Just for example.
Current S model flagships cost way more than its predecessors but are excluded from tons of usefull things. Like charger in box, SD cards, 3,5mm jack some are made of plastic and low quality materials, and plenty comes with weaker exynos.

@Demongornot laughs in galaxy s7. The only reason I am upgrading is the lack of security updates. Why contribute to the e-waste cycle by getting a new phone every 3 years.

Waste of money, there is almost no one who keep their phone over 3 years, they'd rather stick to 3 years of updates and keep the money for something else, like underdisplay camera or foldables.

People buy phones so that they can make/receive calls, play games, use social media apps, etc. They don't buy phones because they want updates.

From a user standpoint, there's practically little to no difference between the latest Android versions, and I don't get people who sees updates as decision factor in buying new phones. I get the phone for the functions I can use now, not for what I will receive in one year or later. I am not against them, I just don't get the fuss, I see them like a bonus, nothing more.

Im not sure why so many people so scared with more software updates from samsung. If you dont like samsung's updates then buy xiaomi, huawei, oppo, etc

There is difference in OTA of apple and Samsung. The iPhone are available even after 2 -3 years of its launch. Even iPhone XR is available in stores. So it is important to have 5 years of update. But in case of Samsung, only the latest flagship is available for purchase. So the 4 year update cycle is for every samsung purchase, but 5 year update for ios is only if you buy the latest iPhone.

And Xiaomi isn't regular with security updates, they r the last to update their flagship with A12 even Samsung and pixel midrange devices got A12 before Mi11 Ultra

Google just got rekt, but more seriously I feel like it won't play out as well as the Pixel updates do even with the extra year. Should help resale value though.

Samsung is really working hard even than Apple and Google. Apple, because, have everything under its own control but the story of Samsung literally makes things huge. Cudos.

sweggitity, 10 Feb 2022It is only the skin EMUI 12, not android 12. check the news againEven if EMUI 12 is based on Android 11, it still consists of features that are comparable to phones with Android 12, and mind you, Huawei is among the biggest contributers to the AOSP source code.
