so Sony here is ur chance to be in my pocket this time around! crisp loud front firing speakers, at least please please!!!!!! have at least, AT LEAST a 5000mah battery ( more is better )! like come on your being left behind in that field! the mark 4 will have a power hungry cpu an screen so please please give the Mark 4 phone the legs it needs to go the distance for the price tag yall are going to ask for! Sony has a whole high end alpha camera series, seems like they are still not bring the fight to the camera game. Let this be the phone that brings the fight to Samsung s22 line the google pixel series and of course, give apple a run for its money in the camera department and MOST DIFFINITLY BATTERY LIFE! ( even the latest galaxy s22 ultra doesn't have the legs to keep up with the iphone 13 pro max) shame!! shame !!!! shame!!! let the world know that Sony has what it takes to make Real flagship phones again!!!!! i dont want to end the year with a iphone in my pocket!

Tann Hauser, 03 Mar 2022That does not have anything to do with long term usability.... moreSoftware update is strongly tied to the longevity of mobile products. My iPhone 6S is still running on the latest iOS version, I can install and use essentially all appas that do not depend on newer hardware features. I know a few people around me bought HTC One M9 or Huawei P8 in the same year. Results? They received two and one OS updates respectively, and the latest versions of popular apps such as Samsung Internet have stopped working on them. All smartphones start losing their usability the moment they stop receiving software updates even if the hardware has remained in tact, as developers will not be interested making their apps compatible with older OS versions forever.

I also suggest you to read the article 'What are Android security updates' on Android Authority, as well as blogs run by antimalware software vendors to inform yourself fully about why updates really matter from the security standpoint. Most phones are not affected by vulnerabilities because they receive patches before attackers start deploying apps that exploit them. If your phone no longer receives one, however, there is no one to protect you once they start targeting you.

A phone should work perfectly fine after their security update cycle. If it indeed breaks down to unusability after that, well, I guess its your smartphone maker to blame.

Long term Usability is about battery/screen/usb/speaker and other hardware longeivity.

            As for software and app,
From the start of using any phone it is recommended to download applications only from playstore, which does the checking for virus/malware. Not untrusted sources which may be malware infested.
Anyway, security updates or not, it boggles me why then antimalware/antivirus software apps exist on playstore at all, if security updates alone take care of all that hassle.

So What logic, we should all throw our phones in the bin after 3-4 yrs update cycle, even tho they work perfectly normal, just because we fear them to become unusable
cause of some hypothetical software malwares?

No, thats just a PR marketing stunt for guilable to go buy new phones.

p.s havent heard or seen a single case of users with >4 yr old smartphones having any security problems at all. Usually they all go buy new phones cause their usb socket or screen or battery goes bust.

Wezz, 02 Mar 2022No but frankly, people are spitting on the 21:9 screen whic... moreI guess it really depends on what kind of content you generally consume on your phone. 21:9 is well suited for movies but quite horrible for YT videos most of which are either 16:9 or 18:9. 18-20:9 displays, on the other hand, are definitely nicer for YT but leave black borders on top and bottom when watching movies. I personally prefer the latter since I don't watch movies on my phone but I get why some people are in love with a longer aspect ratio.

What kind of question is that??
