Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ to be made by TSMC

07 March 2022
Samsung's manufacturing process is not up to Qualcomm's standards, it seems.

Some weeks ago it was known Samsung messed up, nothing to do with the price, but with the poor quality.

I seriously thought about it because lol D9000 had huge efficiency but this is a flagship processor with the consumption of a 7xx it's crazy it consumes 2W less than 888 on load and 2.9W less than 8 gen 1 on a single core having the same power and in some cases better

Xiaomi, ZTE, Realme, Oneplus, Asus or something like that should launch a device like Poco X3 Pro or Realme GT with this set, we would go back to Oneplus days again, flagship killer indeed

Interesting enough the road map for a two year's tels us Samsung will again rise on top with GaA first followed by Intel and TSMC.
Currently it's last from mentioned one's (partly for focusing they efforts to GaA) regarding efficiency (but not when it comes to price for gate).
Other than that for the love of good where is FD-SOI (for normal and mixed electronic with a normal price and development cost)?
So Fin Fet is dead, long live Gate all Around.

Hope it's true. Ever since Qualcomm moved to Samsung, the devices haven't reached the expected performance and efficiency but price keeps going up. So consumers have been paying more for less.
Meanwhile Samsung must spend money to make their chip manufacturing process better, instead of charging same amount for their phones with inferior non-TSMC manufactured chips. Or maybe, they should abandon chip manufacturing altogether and allow all customers the superior TSMC chip. Or maybe, they could use their inferior Exynos on budget phones only.
We consumers don't care if TSMC makes all chip as long as we get value for money. Paying same amount for s23 with TSMC 8G1+ and Exynos 2300 (or whatever the successor is) is getting ripped off

Wonder if this they cause for some exynos 2200 poor performance and overheating but others completely fine. Some people proposed it was an issue with a "bad batch" of chips.

Maybe samsung having problems with yields and quality. 🤷‍♂️

Why Qualcomm did not have TSMC make the SD888 and SD 8 Gen 1 non-Plus?? Because TSMC's manufacturing facilities were already completely filled with orders from Apple, who took the most of TSMC's resources, as well as their other companion customers like MediaTek and such.
Qualcomm did not have any other choice but to go with Samsung for the meantime because nobody else can manufacture chips as good as TSMC does, and Samsung is the closest to them as of now.

Inva, 07 Mar 2022Qualcomm can't even manufacture chips themselves, and ... moreOf course, because Qualcomm is a chip designing company like Apple, while Samsung designs and manufactures at the same time.
But who cares about those things? TSMC possibly did not offer lower prices for chipmaking, rather it's because Qualcomm believes that TSMC's fabrication process is much more energy efficient than Samsung's counterparts.
See this: Qualcomm began to have overheating issues again on their flagship SoCs when they moved from TSMC to Samsung in manufacturing the SD888, and it happened again on the non-Plus SD8 Gen 1. The problem is already clear, and Qualcomm just made the right move in order to make their offerings better. It is Samsung who needs to step up in this case because they may just lose the trust of their customers to their manufacturing facilitie.
