With their pathetic and dated specification in every single phone, HMD doesn't even deserve to be in a smartphone business for any price range.

Pulled out? They never in the game. Even at low end smartphones, they're still pricier than most. No one bother to be interested anymore.

This would have been fine if they were at least making good low end and mid range phones. There is not even one phone in their portfolio that I would even consider buying. Motorola is doing great trying to turn things around. Nokia should take a leaf out of their book.

Emitchell, 07 Mar 2022You just summed it up..... It was what kill most of those o... moreYep. Can't charge like Samsung or Apple if you're not Samsung or Apple. Sony is just fleecing their hardcore fans with every release. I honestly feel Xiaomi and the BBK brands are the only alternative if you can stand the ROMs. Google's Pixel phones have a clean Android experience and the fastest updates. That leaves us with Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, BBK and Google. Everything else is just bad for one reason or another. Huawei still makes good hardware, but without 5G and Google it'll be some time before HMS can deliver a comparable experience.

Anonymous, 07 Mar 2022No, they are going in the exact opposite direction. Chargin... moreYou're wrong about Android One, but I thought the recent Nokia phones aren't Android One anyway. I was under the impression that no "mainstream" phones were Android One anymore. Android One may have failed, but it was never pathetic. The 2 Android One phones I had offered an EXCELLENT software experience compared to the usual skinned and bloated trash ROMs. The problem with Android One was that manufacturers couldn't figure out how to make a profit margin on their phones so they prefer to load them with trash to monetize instead. All this just made me permanent team Pixel anyway.

I do think that HMD Nokia is focusing too much on the budget and entry-level models. Never mind the flagship, I'm not seeing any news about the 8.3 5G and 5.4 successors to date.

Please at least release mid range phones if you're not going for flagship. Need to see new phones with 778/780 5G chipset. All those Unisoc and Mediatek low end stuffs are hurting the brand more!

Emitchell, 07 Mar 2022You just summed it up..... It was what kill most of those o... moreTheir recent phones are as good or better than Competition. Recently Nokia G11 is available many market for Around $120, one of the Best low end of our time 90hz display, Cortex A75 cores, mali g57 Gpu (even Though MC1) etc.
Lot of reputable phones in this price point like galaxy A13, Xiaomi redmi 10A/10C etc offer less specification.
Also sd 480 phones for less than $200 is good value, at same price point you will get sd 680 or helio G80 from many reputable brands.
There is A reason HMD sales are increasing and they are profitable now.

When HMD changed the slogan for their smartphone lineups from being "pure, secure, and up to date" to "love it, trust it, keep it", I know that they cannot and won't be able to deliver what they have promised from these so-called "Nokia"-branded smartphones anymore, and instead, continues to go downhill, slowly but surely, ever since 2019.
From the overhype on using stock Android, the limited market availability, the overprice, the ever delayed and buggy-as-hell-when-you-get-it software update (just look at their community forum and see how many people are complaining about this), the ever frustrating aftersales support (at least in here where I live), not to mention the departure of some of the original HMD team members, especially their phone design team.
Honestly, when the Nokia brand license expires sometime in 2026, I sincerely hope that HMD just use their own name to slap on their phones they sell and leave the commercial Nokia phone brand away so as not to damage the Nokia brand itself much further.

In last couple of years HMD Global (Not Nokia) had launched so many phones with similar specifications and same OS every year that now they are not able to provide monthly security updates and OS updates to all those phones on time. They had promised 2 years of OS updates and 3 years of security updates to all their phones. Everybody knows the fiasco of last years OS update schedule (multiple revisions in schedule) for their smartphones. This year they had not even bothered to release OS update schedule. Except few, all their existing phones are still on Android 11. Not sure, when they will able to provide Android 12 and 12L OS update to all their phones.

Dami Agunbiade, 08 Mar 2022I applaud Nokia for this really. I think they shine in the ... moreRecent Nokia phones aren't even midrange, more entry level. SD 480 is entry level, not midrange. Same with LCD screens in 2021-2022. They've given up on both premium & midrange. I'm still using a 6.1plus from 2018 and like it. But my next phone will certainly not be a Nokia.
