The 12 for example has a very average Chinastar optoelectronics 1080p screen. No waterproofing on any models. Still stuck on USB C 2.1, Overheating problems. Also there is no hardware innovation whatsoever from Xiaomi apart perhaps from fast charging but even that is mostly developed by other companies. Basically just assembled parts (manufacture is also outsourced) from other companies. The only innovation from Xiaomi is the software. Companies like Apple and Samsung actually have more innovation e.g. they design their own chips which is the most important part of the phone. Basically though all android flagships are at a similar level now as they are using mostly the same hardware components from the same suppliers. The main differences boil down to software optimisation. If Xiaomi is your favourite then you should buy them but I don't think you can really legitimately claim they are the best

The smartphone component market is overheated and is beginning to suffer for the same reason it excelled. If enough people vote with their wallets, the lower sales figures will spur suppliers to lower their prices, even with inflation.
It's ungodly how high component prices have risen in response to the smartphone bazaar.
Samsung, Xiaomi and co can't do much, as they pretty much use the same suppliers who price-gouge. Case in point, Snapdragon and their chips. Which is why Samsung is removing features and Xiaomi who have less wiggle room because of already existing compromises has to increase prices.
Apple benefits from bulk pricing. Few models, streamlined components, so suppliers don't want to rock the boat. As it is a very expensive, reliable boat. Heck, iPhone 6 suppliers are still getting orders for components to be used in the iPhone SE 3. That's more than 7 years of consistent orders.

ob, 09 Mar 2022Everything is so expensive when imported to europe.I was 101% sure that im gonna buy Xiaomi 12 Pro. But this plan failed. Now focused on Realme GT 2 pro. Still probably 250-300 Eur cheaper. Telephoto is sad omission but wth.

I was waiting since summer to buy the new 12. But +800€ what a cold bucket of water, the mi 11 pro cost 650 imported now its 500€. Mi 12 pro costs +1000. Lol
What are they thinking with this prices, people will lean towards Apple and Samsung when paying this amount of money.
It will be a fail like the mi 11 when it came out, was too expensive for Europe market, but this year they broke the record.

Just because Apple didn't do ridiculous screen wrapping around edge and wild camera flipping and popping up features doesn't mean they have poor design. It's tamed and conservative. It seems a lot of ppl prefer this over wild redesigns every time.

Too expensive. I am the biggest Xioami fan, have had them from Xioami mi 6, then 8, now 10, but with these prices they lost Value for money thing. 1000e for phone when 3 years ago it was around 400-500e, it is a joke. For 1000e the best buy is the Iphone 13 pro, even if I hate Iphone.

The issue is the more expensive the phone the harder it gets to justify those savings... percentage-wise, the IP certification or USB 3.x represents quite big saving in a 200€-300€ phone, but it's not that significant in a 1000€+ phone (i.e., same savings are diluted percentage-wise by the much steeper price). That's the problem here, Xiaomi is still doing big compromises for products that already have a premium price tag. There are better options without such compromises at that price point.
