Akashi Seijuro, 14 May 2022"mandating just one type of connector for all devices ... moreLightning was designed as first reversible connector, before USB-C and it was also adopted much more widely in a single year of release. It's odd however that Apple kept it on USB 2.0 speeds and not improve it further. Maybe in the past it didn't matter that much, but now with iPhones recording ProRAW 4K videos taking up several gigabytes for just few minutes of recording, it's a bit odd when you need to transfer that to a computer for editing...

"mandating just one type of connector for all devices on the market will harm European consumers by slowing down the introduction of beneficial innovations in charging standards, including those related to safety and energy efficiency."
As if we really did see any substantial upgrade in their proprietary Lightning Port ever since its debut. Why did Apple became concerned about suppression of innovations by standardizing one port only when EU government went out with such law?? It's as if they'd never really bother making a better technology if such a ruling did not exist in the first place.

You're making it sound like other companies live and breathe for user's experience and they'd do absolutely everything to make users happy and Apple is here only to make money. You just described 100% of companies.

AnonD-1049375, 14 May 2022Also, probably Apple knows that they will not put anything ... moreBy that logic, it'd be killing sales for the 14 before it even came out.
This is just Apple saying "we'll see" while they get ready to remove the port altogether.

Anonymous, 14 May 2022Apple be like, "Let's pull one more year of profi... moreNothing says "I don't understand designing and developing of products at all" than your comment. EU made a draft of the "law" now, in May 2022. New iPhone 14 models are scheduled for mass relese sometime in September 2022. That's just 4 months away. You don't just suddenly drop hardware design change 4 months before product launch because someone made a draft of a law or more like proposition for a law at this point. Typical GSMArena comment section moment...

Anonymous, 14 May 2022Apple be like, "Let's pull one more year of profi... moreAlso, probably Apple knows that they will not put anything interesting in the iPhone 14 lineup (only that iPhone 14 Max model; who will be just an iPhone 14 with bigger screen and battery), so they make this rumors to make people more interested in the iPhone 15's.
They are sacrificing iPhone 14 profit (because probably they are thinking many people who wanted iPhone already got the iPhone 13 models), for a bigger iPhone 15 profits.

AnonD-1033007, 14 May 2022I don't get it though, there is already USB-C on iPad.... moreBecause iPhones sell much more quantities than iPads. And iPhones represents a big portion from Apple profits each year. iPads, not so much.
That is one of the reason they removed the charger from iPhone boxes, but kept it in the iPad boxes. Because there are much more people out there with iPhones, than with iPads. If they really cared about environment, they should have removed the charger from iPad boxes too.
Is the same scenario in the case of the lightning port.
Profit is the key word in here. And Apple likes profit more than their customers wishes. Sadly.
