Because they don't need to spend like a thousand bucks on a 2022 flagship with just a 60hz screen. Even midrange android phones come with 120 hz these days

You really are such blind and delusional in your love for Apple. Its incredibly funny. Android flagships had this feature since 2015 at least, ant it doesn't need to be tapped. Talking of voice control, my seven years Moto flagship can do a lot more with voice control than just reading out notifications. So once again, iOS is left in dust by sheer advancements of android that ALWAYS come years ahead before apple can ever start to catch up
And also, the said feature is called Ambient Display and not AOD, so stop flexing about your ancient XR. Go educate yourself

Makay Chapulets, 30 May 2022Android has AOD but how many people use to turn it on? AOD ... moreAOD is on by default on most Androids. And people are not dumb as Apple execs make them out to be. Teach them and they will know their ways.

Which is a bad excuse, as noone is forced to use it, same was true for high refresh rate displays. Apple is late to the party, again.

People seem to greatly under appreciate Motorola's approach, which in my opinion is the very best out there really.
Peek display, or Shake/Approach to show notifications.
That way, it only turns on when you need it to and stays off when You don't.
Yes, Motorola is only my 2nd best. I prefer several of it's implementations even to my no 1 favorite, the Sony Xperias.

Whackcar, 30 May 2022Stop making excuses for Apple for being late to everything.... moreWhat excuses lol? AOD is the LAST thing I'd want or expect from any phone. Especially since I have a smartwatch so all the info is instantly fed to me, meaning AOD literally has no purpose at all. And even if I didn't have smartwatch, it wouldn't change anything really.

LoneOwl, 30 May 2022Losing 2% per hour is almost like 17-20% per day just from ... moreMy s22+ AoD uses hardly any battery. It's reporting 3.5% a day (I have it on schedule 7am - 8pm), so around ~0.3% an hour.
Find it useful for time, battery % and notifications instead of having to light up thr full display (which probably uses more battery)
I guess the percentage is dependant on size of battery of the device, but with the low battery usage I'm happy with it.

Thats actually a lot if you combine it with the fact that people charge their phone before the battery reaches 20-25%. And not only that but now we have 120hz displays that also consume more battery (even worse if we include 5G),and yeah no wonder why smartphones these days need charging every day.
AoD is nice to have but its mostly needed in smartwatches.

AOD isn't a must have feature if not apple would have implemented it sooner and even if they are late at it, it will definitely be better than whatever Android OEM has been doing.
