Weekly poll: what does the perfect smartphone display look like to you?

05 June 2022
Do you have a minimum resolution or refresh rate when looking for a new phone? What about AMOLED vs. LCD and flat vs. curved displays?

Sort by:

I have a Note 20 ultra and had it set on fhd+ so I could use 120 Hz. I decided to try qhd which only allows 60 Hz. I honestly haven't noticed any difference in smoothness but the screen is more crisp. I have decided to keep my phone set this way. So Hz on Note 20 is not noticeable to me.

A perfect smartphone display must meet these key criterias

Dimension: flat display (extremely minimal curvature is acceptable but flat is ideal)
it must have a minimum width of 75mm, if I wanted a narrow object, I would reach for my TV remote.
The trend of narrow smartphones drives me crazy. Thank you samsung for not following this stupid trend

Technology: quad hd,120hz LTPO 2 oled with 300 plus touch sampling rate and peak brightness of 1300 plus nits

As expected the large majority prefers AMOLED over LCD crap.

Anonymous, 05 Jun 2022Perfect smartphone display 4K 144Hz MicroLEDMicro led might use to much power for mobile phones or could even get too hot, probably not so suitable for mobile usage, qd-oled is probably better

While I doubt there will be any micro led display for phones, qd-oled could be the future for flagships, might be as early as 2023 Android and 2025 for iPhone

Majority picking on 1080p display really really?
Have you guys not seen how good the displays of WQHD+ of the Samsung S Ultra Series, LG G Series and Xiaomi's Mi 11?
They're really good displays sadly you guys are fckng blnd

                          Anonymous, 05 Jun 2022I disagree... on a 6" HD+ resolution 1024x720(ish) vs ... moreMan i just dont think so.
                          Its just a 6 incher.
Its like with 12 or 108 mPix photos. On a 6 inch screen the difference will be minimal but play your photos on a 70 inch TV and you will notice everything.

ALPHABOY17, 05 Jun 2022Exactly man, how we lived with 5" displays, with 2500-... moreBecause phones we used to have between 2012-17 had

                              - smaller screen: less power required
                              - lower brihtness: less power required
                              - 8bit : less power required
                              - 3G/4G : less power required
                              - less cameras : less power required
                              - 60Hz : less power required

Now see the batyery test ranking. Phones that lead have 8bit 60Hz HD/FHD, one useful camera (or not even one), weaker SoC, most of them are 4G.

Olympus Oms, 05 Jun 2022Get a name. We only talked about the screen. Not the rest. KidPerson mentions small screen with hole and 120Hz.

With his, it is obviously that the phone would be just bit larger than iphone mini.
This body size does not even allow a 3000mAh.

Tell us a phone with less than this that can handle 120Hz and FHD properly. Not even counting if phone has 5G and power hungry SoC.

Think outside the box. Not that hard .....
