Michalis, 29 Jun 2022That is why they're explaining that it's a 1 inch... moreSony, Canon, Leica, Nikon, Fuji and other camera makers all call 1 inch as well.
It is not phone makers fooling people here.

It has always been known as 1 inch.

vrvly, 29 Jun 2022Wish Sony made the biggest sensor, the best lens, best in a... moreTo avoid huge cam bump it needs much wider lens like Sharp (19mm).
Since they already use a 16mm, makes no sense to have 16 and 19.

Also, they still make some money out of RX100 series, compacts count for 30-33% of camera business revenue. Some products need to stay apart.
This is why you will never see walkman hardware inside their phones.

Xperia is 3% of sony revenue, while phones are main income for xiaomi.
It is not much worth for one, but necessity to the other.

Apple should be one buying this. But you know people gonna buy iphone even if it still had 1/3" from iphone 6.

The sensor should be in the Xiaomi 12ultra, Since the design off 12s is ugly with curves like the iPhones, the 12u has less curves , like the pixel 6pro.

            I have the Sony Pro-i.
I'm really so happy, more than the S22ultra I have.

hoping this sensor would not produce oil painting. but it could be the software from the phone itself.

If you look back at the 2018/19 flagships, you'll notice much more natural processing, for example: Oneplus 6, Mi 8, S9, etc.

Showing an actual diagonal length of the sensor instead of saying 1" surely would've confused everyone.

Nick Tegrataker, 29 Jun 2022Why would they call it IMX703? Xiaomi never used that senso... moreIt's false advertising is what it is. It shows like sensor has a diagonal of 1" which is just absolute nonsense.

[deleted post]No, I'm not spreading fake news. I'm only reporting what I've read on jd.com and I guarantee I did read numerous comments saying this. Like Nick mentioned though, this could users effectively imagining it as they might look for degraded camera performance after they read comments from other users. These comments are actually there though and as far as I know only users who bought the phones can comment on jd.com so the comments are coming from real users. Having read Nick's reply though, I agree with him.

Xiaomi never used that sensor on any of their products, which means its name never showed up in their promotional materials and nobody would know which phone it was used on. The company is trying to make a comparison with iPhone to show how much larger the sensors inside their own phones are, which is what this teaser exactly achieves.

Nick Tegrataker, 29 Jun 2022Here's the thing; if no one, like literally no one, is... moreYeah, good point. It could be that. I still think the mi 11 ultra takes much more natural main sensor photos though than the Xiaomi 12 pro in general despite the brighter night photos. The Xiaomi 12 and 12 pro are similar in style. There seems to be more sharpening in the photos in general and they've really pumped up the saturation compared to the Xiaomi 11 series. I bought the Xiaomi 12 but I really dislike the colour of photos. The saturation is incredibly high and photos look nothing like you see in outdoor photos. The colour in video is way better though, much less saturated and closer to natural. Wonder if Leica will make much difference to the colour processing. Still within the 7 day return window so thinking about changing to the Xiaomi 12s instead for the imx707 sensor (although the 12s is likely to be an extra $150 or so over what I paid for the Xiaomi 12). I think the biggest improvement in the 12 series is the photo taking experience. Finally Xiaomi added motion tracking so it's easier to get pics of moving subjects and they also improved the speed of taking a photo and processing them quite a bit.

For instance, let's say Xiaomi has pushed out an update that tuned Mi 11 Ultra's camera in a way that it now shoots nighttime photos like how 12 Pro does. 12 Pro tends to take darker photos in low light (more specifically, the midtones are noticeably darker), which makes the photos less appealing to general consumers but arguably more realistic. Suddenly Mi 11 Ultra owners feel like their photos are no longer correctly exposed, hence "worse".

Not to mention that the internet acts as a giant echo chamber when there are many people feeling the same way about a certain product at the same time, and ends up amplifying people's anxiety, even if the problem doesn't really exist to begin with.

Even if it was 1/1.12" , would still be way superior to GN2.
This is why xiaomi dropped samsung.
