Weekly poll: if you could get a Xiaomi 12S, 12S Pro or 12S Ultra, would you?

10 July 2022
The Ultra will be exclusive for China - but if you can buy one, do you think this is the best phone for your money? What about the revamped 12S and 12S Pro?

SShock, 10 Jul 2022If only there was one other thing *cough* software *cough* ... moreI've been using Mi 11 Ultra for about 6 months. While MIUI got a lot of flaks for being buggy and unoptimized in the past, the latest version is problem free for the most part and delivers amazing smoothness.

The only thing that I believe would bother some people is the battery optimization feature, which is turned on for all apps by default; I disable it for only a handful apps that I desperately need notification for and leave it on for every other one to restrict their background activities (Why would I want apps that I don't use often to continuously monitor my locations?). With that said, the overall experience I would get out of Mi 11 Ultra is nowhere near as bad as my friend's S20 FE that suffers from display touch misregisters, Gboard force closing, lags or stutter showing up everywhere across the UI and cameras not being able to nail the focus on the subjects at all.

Xiaomi's cameras are great unlike on iPhone or Galaxy, the speakers are flagship grade quality, I still receive monthly security updates and so far the battery life has been solid too. Cost me the equivalent of 1200 USD, no regret.

HutHutHut, 10 Jul 2022Absolute nonsense... The Mi 11 Ultra sold out worldwide in ... more10 Ultra was China only because 10 Pro was global.
11 Ultra was global becasue 11 Pro was China only.

Now 12s Ultra is China only. There is no way Xiaomi would make it global for less than $1600. They know this proce range is extremely dominated by Apple.
Xiaomi does not see any advantage to make it global for price that high when they can sell it for $1000 in China, which would be way below iphone 13 pro.

I hate the center punch hole front camera. The left side mounted one would have been perfect for me. I just have to look elsewhere. That's a deal breaker for me.

It has no b20 band, which is the mostly used LTE/4G band in Germany. It does not make any sense to import it because of that, even if I really wanted that phone.

The Android Freak, 10 Jul 2022Then get Moto Edge + 2022. Killer device. If you get it on ... moreAppreciate the recommendation (no sarcasm... honest. Hard to tell online these days) but it's too big for my wife. Also, heard the battery life isn't the greatest. I'm sure dropping it to 90Hz would suffice and make the battery better (and DARN shame the mmWave version doesn't have the rest of T-Mobile 's bands) but yeah the size is rough.

For myself, no headphone jack and IP52 is better than nothing but not better than my Xperia 1 iii. I'll probably wind up getting my wife a Pixel 7 as long as the 2nd Gen Tensor improves connectivity (especially with LDAC) and gets a 512GB version.

I'd get any of them if not for MiUI which I hate with passion.

The Mi 11 Ultra sold out worldwide in every country it was made available too... The only downside was the Xiaomi made it a limited edition phone... As a result sales were dependent upon how many unites were made available to a particular region... In any case I am very happy with my Mi 11 Ultra... Wasn't planning on upgrading this year... Maybe only 2024...

Anonymous, 10 Jul 2022The Ultra Series couldn't compete well outside of Chin... moreIf only there was one other thing *cough* software *cough* that could really elevate top spec hardware into an ultimate device everyone would actually crave...

It's just insane how Xiaomi still doesn't get it when someone is paying 1000€ and more for a phone, they expect whole package, not just all out specs and nothing else. Well, some don't care, but most do. Because when you consider that, there are a lot other way better options that are actually complete package.

Until then, Xiaomi will remain great option for small home appliances and fitness bracelets... They are good at that and because they are cheap, no one really expects anything from them. They just work and that's that.

I had a Redmi 2 Prime, a sweet sounding audio output, and a very small, lightweight body were the striking merits. Of course, it also had a good lightweight software as well.
I used it for 6 good years.

Today, even Mi calculator has a privacy policy you're asked to accept on opening it, leave alone Camera and Notes app. Everything is connected to your Mi account.
So, none of the Xiaomis are for me, Sorry. The software is a legalised spyware.

That said, I'm impressed at the camera level it has reached. And this one inch sensor, I bet it will rock!

Xiaomi? No no no no stay away from me.. I had 3 Xiaomi mi pro generations.. FULL on trash nope no more I don't care for stats, cameras nothing, no more Xiaomi.. OPPO, yes, Huawei epic phones, Nokia meh kinda, Samsung, Apple are a locked phones you buy u use you throw no green in either companies.. But I would go with any of them except Xiaomi, even if you gift me Xiaomi pro+ultra duper I would be offended

I have good memories of the Mi Mix. It was my first high-end phone at launch. It didn't have a great camera, but the main shooter was good enough to get by. I'm certain Xiaomi was the only skin that had colored icons on the status bar. It took me a while to get over that.

I ultimately moved on because it would take the phone 5-10 minutes to pick up service when I left a building. There was times I would pick up lunch and return without getting service. That's why I've stayed away from Asus and that's why I would not get this phone.

The night mode camera might only be matched by Vivo, the focus speed is class leading and it's ability to maintain a balanced sharpness at a pic's actual size is unmatched. Otherwise, I don't see much of a difference in daytime photos.

They should optimize it better, the software. Maybe if they didn't install all those bloatware apps, it would consume less power.
We have compact phones with 4000+ mAh. I'm will not abdicate from a compact and usable phone. I also don't use all the camera modules. A good main and ultrawide is important. The rest not so much.
