Anonymous, 08 Jul 2022Patents are not worldwide. Remember sony phones with fi... morePlenty of Xiaomi phones are exactly the same between it's domestic and international models with only a re-branded name but significant price difference. If the price difference is due to Xiaomi ignoring patents on its domestic model there would be law suits filed against Xiaomi's re-branded international models particularly in the EU where patent laws are arguably the toughest in the world.

So the question still stands, OP claimed price discrepancy between Xiaomi's domestic and international models are due to unpaid patent royalties, so which patents are these?

tommy abc, 07 Jul 2022It's only sold in China, it's meaningless to reviewCompletely agree with you

The biggest advantage I've seen so far are on nighttime shots. This camera handles lights much better than Samsung and Apple. There was some inconsistency though. Ben took a shot of a Pavilion. The lights below the roof bled into the bottom half of the pic so it had a very slight red/brownish overlay.

Another area where this camera consistently impresses are on pic's at their actual size. The image maintains nice clarity. Samsung's pictures look like water paintings when you look at the actual size.

Otherwise, I don't see that much of a separation on the daytime shots and none of these comparisons included the pixel.

Anonymous, 08 Jul 2022Last topic before they comment about samples https://www.gs... moreFrom what I could tell by looking into the links, 10-bit colour specifically refers to photos saved in the HEIF format, not the sensor's native bit-depth (similar to Oppo's 10-bit Color Engine)

Also, from the GSMArena review that you posted:
"The RAW files are also 12-bit, so you don't need to bother with the gimmicky 10-bit HEIFs if you want maximum post processing headroom."

I guess OnePlus did decide to enable 12-bit readout for RAW capture, after all.

"I do not know if even 989 has all this"
Yeah, Xiaomi disclosed almost no information about this new sensor, apart from its size, resolution, pixel pitch and AF technology. They didn't even say whether this sensor supports all the features that were present on Mi 11 Ultra's GN2 (Staggered HDR, dual native ISO, real-time HDR using dual gain, etc).

789 is not the largest quadbayer, but it is indeed the one with more tech. I do not know if even 989 has all this.

It's worth noting that the Leica "Authentic" and "Vivid" modes on Xiaomi phones seem to correspond with Leica "Smooth" and "Standard" on Huawei respectively - this means that, despite what their names suggest, you get the more filtered and artistic look on the former (uncorrected vignette, higher contrast, HDR engaging less often) whereas the latter offers more realistic colours and contrast to better represent the reality.

Xiaomi knows that they will not sell many $1000+ phone oversea. Even in China, if you buy a $1000+ phone, you will choose apple(or Huawei before), not Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo.

A lot Gsmarean readers in China are expecting the review.

Saw some samples yesterday. Gladly they look to have low levels of sharpening.
Unlike samsung, apple and google that use too much to make texture much better than it is in reality.
