Weekly poll: is the Asus Zenfone 9 the perfect phone for you?

31 July 2022
Small but powerful, with few compromises (though some might prove to be deal breakers). Is this the best small Android flagship?

There's no good reason or excuse. For a phone with whopping 800EUR price tag, it is ridiculous to provide just two updates. What's more, Android 13 will be released in TWO months. So what you will really gets is just ONE update to Android 14, pretty similar to some Nokia mainstream phones.

This is the very same problem which bothered me years ago considering buy a Galaxy Note. Typically they were released in summer while the next Android version was coming soon. When they went for sale in my country, normally Google had released the next major version. Notes had the same update policy as S-series, 3 major versions. But the release time offsetted one update. So I moved to pixel and now considering move back to Samsung as they now release all flagships at Feb and provide FOUR updates.

Pixel 5 released at 2020 will get the exactly same update, while Samsung promised 4 major updates. S22 will receive Android 16 in 2025.

I cannot justify the choice of ZF9 over S22(SD version). If you really want one, you can wait and they will cut price half months later. Or, try your luck. It only costs 20000TWD, aka around 650EUR at Taiwan. Try to import one by yourself.

If it had a minimum of 3 years of OS updates (and if I hadn't got myself an iPhone 13 Pro) then I might have bought one as my work phone. It's a solid flagship with great performance, great battery life, a decent display, a headphone jack and a great pair of speakers, which also happens to be pretty reasonably priced, so why not?

GeeX, 31 Jul 2022I would if it had midrange processor and mid range price ta... moreJust get the Nothing phone (1) then. Of course, if you are willing to go with an unknown company.

Overall, it doesn't look bad. However, wireless charging is not supported and only 2 years of update support is deal breaker.
If the Zenfone 10 has more than four years of SW support, wireless charging, and a telescope camera, I am willing to buy it then.

i got a rog2 tencent about 2yrs ago. not a single software update, not a single security patch. zenfone 9 with 2yrs updates seems like a godsend to me. so ues, i'll buy this once it becomes available here in the philippines.

The Android Freak, 31 Jul 2022You are lucky to get it at that price. Hopefully this phone... moreI don't know much about software support for Asus phones nowadays. I remember that I had one Asus phone many years ago (I think it had Android 6 out of the box). And when I updated it to Android 7, it break the phone (literally apps crashing, phone resetting, etc.). When I was in warranty with it, the guys there told me never update this phone, because Android 7 breaks this model (I said, wtf). Anyway, that is my only experience with Asus phones. But, of course, it was a low-end model (I think I paid 200-250EUR for it).
As for OnePlus phones in my country, the situation is not very good. They started disappearing from online stores offerings. They are almost as hard to find nowadays, as Huawei phones. I think people don't trust OnePlus brand anymore in my country. The second market is full of OnePlus older models (probably people are ditching them because they have problems with them). Obviously in this cases, those people will not buy another OnePlus phone any time soon.
In here, Samsung and Apple phones are in front. Followed by Xiaomi and Realme. I see Motorola phones making a comeback also. The rest have very low market share (Sony, Pixel, Vivo, OnePlus, Huawei, Honor, etc.).

I hate how every weekly poll is now "will you buy the [insert phone name]". I'll give you a hint, statisticly, 99% won't.

I'll definitely consider getting one if it is available in my country (should be, 8 was). But only two years of support make me worried a bit. In fact, it makes only about a year for those, who buy i later, that's worse...
Maybe iPhone mini is still better choice, I'm tired of large phones.

Grey Wolf, 31 Jul 2022That's goes to show you this polls on arena don't... moreYou are lucky to get it at that price. Hopefully this phone as well will be available at that price tag soon. This is pretty good phone. But just not the price. How's the update situation in your country by Asus? How's the OnePlus share?

I really like Zenfone 9, it's almost a perfect phone. 2 years of software support, under display fingerprint and the price are a deal breaker for me. I would rather choose iPhone or Samsung.

It doesn't seem to have eSIM according to the specs list.

For the money I'd like to see wireless charging and better night mode camera.

But this is the only decent one-handed Android phone in 2022, so maybe?

I'll definitely buy it if only the price is below 799 euro and better support. 2 years of support with the price of 799 euro? Damn, I'll buy iPhone 13 Mini with that price. I'll get up to 5 years of support.

It's almost perfect but the price is too high

rizki1, 31 Jul 2022just like Zenfone 8, what happen to that phone? only 1.6 mi... moreThat's goes to show you this polls on arena don't represent anything. Not the real world situation anyway. I see them more as fun time.
If they will make a poll about Samsung or Apple phones, I am sure they will be negative results in here. In reality, majority of people buy Samsung and Apple phones.
In my country the Zenfone 8 (8Gb/128Gb) cost 450EUR now (new phone by the way). I wouldn't buy it even at that price, lol. I don't like small phones anymore (not for my current needs anyway). Everything is cramped, heat dissipation is usually not as good as bigger variants, battery is inferior in most cases. The only good thing about small phones is that they sit good in my pockets. Not enough.

just like Zenfone 8, what happen to that phone? only 1.6 millions clicked to see it specs, also in the poll most people want this phones and how about market share? is even anyone know Asus made a flagship phones? btw Zenfone 8 is 600 euro than 800 in 9. Will it sell even better? hopefully yes. Talking software support with stock android only 3 years is not enough.
