15 August 2022
Are these the best foldables yet? The best available near you, at least? Or not all that good?

No matter what the poll tells, Samsung is the only one brand that is bringing the fold/flip-able consistently till now. For this, I appreciate Samsung although I am not a die-hard fan.

Hard for me to change from current note 10 plus.
Current 512 gb + 512 gb extra storage is hard to beat.

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2022Waiting to see what Apple comes up with before deciding on ... moreApple will only make foldable only if the following is finished.

        1. Stage manager. or a way to transit between iOS / iPadOS.. or multi split screen on iOS.
        2. M3 chip or better.
        3. Underscreen faceID.

Look at their delay and bugs on just a simple stage manager feature.

Plus on top of that.. if a person buy this device, they may not buy iPad or iPhone..

Moreover in Apple eyes.. it means its not portable like iPhone.. or as powerful and battery life like a iPad.. and Apple will not create such a device.. thinking its jack of all trades.. and master of none.

So unless Apple change CEO or top members.. i do not think they will release any foldables.

Waiting to see what Apple comes up with before deciding on going for a Foldable

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2022If their cameras weren't so terrible I'd get one.... moreI agree the cameras on these expensive devices such as the Fold 3,5 are terrible and the image quality is hideous. Looks like a 2002 phone.

Yes! The price is the sole consideration.

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2022I won’t downgrade from a glass screen to a plastic screen. While paying double the price for a weaker, lower quality display, no improvements except the bad camera, ugly crease etc. etc. I feel sorry for the suckers that bought this thing.

After 6-8 months it's worth nothing and they won't be able to sell it. Not to mention the unevitable repairs will be costly.

                  First of all - this isn't a Fold 4. It's a Fold 3,5.

                  a) Way too expensive for what you're getting
                  b) Exceptionally bad quality. A fingernail will destroy the screen
                  c) Screen breaks after 6-8 months
                  d) Absolutely hideous crease that becomes deeper and deeper with time
                  e) No improvements besides the new (bad) cameras
                  f) Really bad cameras with poor image quality
                  g) Very low or no resale value (noone will buy an old Fold 3,5 with deep crease)
                  h) Extremely costly (inevitable) repairs

Conclusion: The Fold 3,5 is not worth buying. If it costed around 800 dollars then maybe a purchase would be warranted.

I'm not hating samsung foldables. But with 1500usd starting price, you could buy latest S series phone + tablet with the same amount of money.

Foldable are still too fragile and neglected by app developers. I like having a bigger screen available but if you have young children, or any sand gets in the hinge it will not last. Phones should last for atleast 5 years, you can't make a Foldable last for more than 2.

Samsung foldables have much more visible creases than those of Xiaomi's or Motorola's, these creases making them feel weird and outdated.
Saying that, those deep creases shouts as a branding feature, which is good for flagship phones at that price.

I'll consider Flip 4... depends on the price in my country.

Don't like foldables (to this day but might change in the future...).

I was happy when flip phones finally died in the late 2000s. I can't understand why some people want to bring them back. I owned 2 flip dumb phones back in the day and both of them died from regular use faster than any other phones I have ever owned. What is the point of a smartphone that folds out to the normal size of a smart phone?

alcatraz, 15 Aug 2022I could tolerate an 18:9 inner but if it's any longer ... moreI was talking about the outer display. The Xperia phones are 21:9 and advertised for media consumption, maybe not the best for 16:9 but it's good for wide screen content which a lot of movies and TV shows are released with lately. I'm not sure what the inner display aspect would be in that case though.

rghaleb, 15 Aug 2022If you're talking about the outer display, I think 21:... more16:9 in THREE parts folded like a "Z" (or in on it self like an "e") will give roughly 16:9 both opened and closed, but I guess that is a not just around the corner....

(9+1+9+½+9):16 is pretty close to 16:9

rghaleb, 15 Aug 2022If you're talking about the outer display, I think 21:... moreI could tolerate an 18:9 inner but if it's any longer I don't think it wouldn't suit media consumption.

alcatraz, 15 Aug 202216:9 foldable for me. Until then...If you're talking about the outer display, I think 21:9 would be the best compromise. 23:9 is still too narrow but 21:9 is manageable. The inner display would also have a better wide aspect ratio.
