Apple should stay away, RCS does NOT have end to end encryption by default, it is up to the user to enable it. Most average users have no clue about it or how to enable it the end to end RCS encryption. Fix the encryption first.

Apple love to fuel peer pressure, because it's one of the very few ways they could move grand numbers.
iMessage is a BIG deal only in the U.S, which also happens to be the only(?) market Apple dominates. Many muricans—including the adults, but mostly the teens—stigmatise and discriminate people who dare use android. Only thick skins give them the middle finger. But, then, teens could hardly ever be accused of possessing thick skin.

You still see it from the wrong side. Blame Google, not Apple.

In fact, they don't. They have iMessage for sending anything among iDevices, and whoever other wants something, they really don't care.

Whether they admitted to it or not, it doesn't really change much. I was a WP user when WP8 and WP8.1 was a thing. It was the best mobile experience at the time, but the problem was the lack of apps, or at least the "essential" apps like Gmail, youtube, chrome, etc.
While MS is to blame as well for poor decisions, Google definitely had a part in it.

The “discrimination” will still exist, plus Apple will need to support tons of Android hate. People in other countries will just do watsapp wechat and so on.

Anonymous, 12 Aug 2022The more you support, the harder to introduce new features ... moreExcept, what new features did Apple exactly implemented in iMessage that is possible only by using a different messaging system? All I know is that iMessage can only send low-quality photos and videos, as well as no notifications for when the receiver has received the sender's message, all thanks to Apple's persistence to using decade-old SMS and MMS for their own iMessage platform.
Having RCS will not really bring any possible harm for Apple, but it would definitely solve the issues I mentioned, as well as finally remove the "stupid" discrimination against Android users when communicating in cross-platform with iOS users. In short, it would stop Apple (hopefully) from emphasizing every single time in iMessage if a message is sent via iPhone or Android, which is the root cause for the hate against Android users.

I'm glad WhatsApp is the defacto messaging app here because there's no way I'm joining a group to be a second class citizen in it lol. They can keep it.

I don't see any problem, I can send a text message to anyone from my iphone, no matter if it's ios or android. In fact, my wife is on android and I'm on ios, we have no problem. I think that in the USA and Canada you have a brain problem actually. It is true that we also use Whatsapp (less often now due to data collection) and Signal, which is brilliant.

SuuperBaka, 12 Aug 2022Ironic. Google crying about what Apple is doing when they d... moreThe difference is that Google admitted that it was their fault and they're now making up for it to Microsoft by allowing Google Play Store apps to work on Windows 11, and hopefully could help make Android-Windows communication more seamless than ever before.
But Apple? No, they're still neglecting it. They never even wanted to go universal with the iPhone's single port for the sake of their customers' convenience, and instead continued to insist their decade-old Lightning Port that is too obsolete now, and they wouldn't even bother changing that at all if not for the new law passed in EU.
Bottomline is, both had their fair share of bad actions in the past, but Google at least acknowledge their own ones and made up for them in a proper way.
Besides, it's not even about Google begging Apple to make changes just for their own good. They're politely asking Apple to make this radical change for the sake of the users themselves, which is, both Android and iOS users will benefit from the higher-quality images/videos and other added features brought by the newer RCS technology, all without really hurting Apple in any way whatsoever. If Apple were to simply let their pride down for just a bit and understand their customers' needs first before their own ones, then I'd applaud them for actually listening to us.
