Anonymous, 28 Nov 2022Only meaning difference between flagship and mid range phon... moreI won't be confident with that as there are still loads of flagships that only have two OS updates. Even Google can give three OS updates to their Pixel A phones with midrange SoC.

Hemedans, 28 Nov 2022Even Gpu sd 778G is ahead of sd 845, debate is sd 855 and 7... moreThe 778 will be kinder on the battery. Probably has a better AI engine and better CPU. That said I'd never choose anything below flagship grade processor wise.

Just got the Xiaomi 12tpro, previous phone OnePlus 8. The Xiaomi gets warmer when playing games and the performance is hardly any better than the OnePlus 8. That's Snapdragon 865 Vs 8 gen 1+. Might be some performance differences though when cod mobile warzone arrives. Main reason I got a replacement for the OP8 is because I've played games on it nearly every day for 2 years. How phones have changed as well...my OnePlus 8 fits in my hand so well and it's a good 20 grammes lighter than the Xiaomi and the OnePlus has a metal frame too. Phones need to slim down again..I feel like we've taken a step backwards with the sheer bulk of the latest devices..that said the Xiaomi does have a 200mp camera with significant bump.

Gz, 28 Nov 2022Have you ever using flagship chipset Flagship chipset ha... moreWhat's the point for me to buy a flagship when midranger still does the job. Also, because of more powerful flagship chips, they have worse battery life. In my experience, most people i know who buy flagships don't even use them to full extent, only using basic stuff as i said, messengers, watching stupid instagram pictures or tiktok clips. You don't really need iPhone or Android with 8 Gen 2 to use WhatsApp, YouTube, Instagram, Browser and Google Maps. Something like SD 778, 7 Gen 1, Dimensity 1200 will be enough for 3-4 years, if not longer.

Sure the best chipset will give the best experience (supposedly), but nowadays we just need to find our own sweet spot. we dont need 1000cc superbike to commute daily, we also dont need v6 engine car to use, whether daily use or out of town usage.
basically we dont need m1, a15, 8gen 1 etc if our daily use doesnt far off from chatting, social media, and very light gaming
find your own sweet spot!

I think flagship chip vs midrange chip is not practical. Because flagship devices not only use flagship chip but also faster storage + ram + modem, better build quality, better display + camera + ISP etc. All these translated into better user experience. However if rest of the the factors are same, than i will happy with any 1/2 gen older flagship chip or vanilla flagship chip instead of their plus/ultra variants.

if you're going to use your smartphone as a "communication devices" heck, even the Snapdragon 720G will do it just fine. i had Oppo Reno 5 4G and it do all the thing as communication devices pretty well. Flagship chip is only matter if we're going to use the devices as multirole-main devices. and in my opinion the only phone can make out the most power of flagship SoC is Galaxy Z Fold series. It can be a phone, it can be a tablet with enough screen real estate to do a real-multitasking, when docked it can be a PC (in some extend).
on the "flip" side (pun-intended), the flip form-factor is a phone that don't deserve a flagship SoC.

Most people don't even need chipsets from the past 5 years. The Samsung Galaxy S8 continues to be a powerhouse capable of playing most modern apps, 64GB of space, 4GB of ram. Computers are very capable at the moment with most performance enhancement only being useful for enthusiasts and gamers.

I've been using my LG Velvet 5G with Snapdragon 765G chipset and I'm still happy with the overall performance, even when using the Dual Screen case at the same time.

An0n, 27 Nov 2022There you go forgetting about fabrication process again: si... morethe SD 845 is 3.5 years older than the 778G. that's about 4 generations of technological advancements.
If you compare SD 855 phones, (~3 years older) with 778G phones, the 3 generations older chipset still outperforms the 778G in most parts.
I guess a general guide line is, the newest mid-range chipset performs similarly to a 3 year old flagship chipset. If there's no appreciable difference even in the flagship devices through the 3 years, I doubt anyone would be buying new flagship devices for the 3 years.

jiyen235, 27 Nov 2022flagship chipsets aren't made for today, they're ... moreMy experience is that mid-ranger phones can never load/run/switch apps as fast or as quickly as a flagship phone. I suppose it typically takes owners 1 year to finally accept that their phones are not as fast as they thought it was.
