VMs are the only way to do it properly. You can get away with containers if your only testing the userspace of Linux distros, but the moment you require to test a module with a different kernel or validate the use of a kernel interface you'll be fooling yourself inside a container.
Containers are great for most app/web developers. But not so great once you start messing with the lower layers of the network stack or need to ensure complex stuff that isn't just userspace actually works outside your setup.

Under... moreThere are plenty of test in that article you decide to pick one to prove your bias, its ok.
And that perfomance test to measure how system sustain perfomance was done by using cinebench, so has nothing to do if game is optimized or not.

Under load (max brightness) - 1h 53min
Macbook Air: 2560x1664, max brightness - 486 nits
Under load (max brightness) - 2h 24min
Having a significantly more budget-quality display that is both dimmer and lower resolution therefore easier on battery, Z13 shuts down 30 minutes before M2 under load. So much for 'catching up on Apple' lol.
We all know that Windows machines are more performant when it comes to actual gameplays due to the optimisations and better developer support. Now tell me how many percentage of the battery is left on your Z13 after running super resolution upscaling and Deepprime XD noise reduction on 1000 raw images using, which I do quite often on my M1 Pro powered Macbook Pro.

Anonymous, 02 Dec 2022Raised the bar? Or raised the thermal ceiling? LolMost cpu from Intel or Amd can give 80% of perfomance by using half of power usage or sometime less than that, this year M2 is throttling thermal mess compare to Rembrandt and Alderlake.
I gave link of review of new thinkpad Z13 with new Ryzen rembrandt battery life is incredible. Not just battery life if you look at sustained performance of that ryzen 6650u pro is better than M2,
Not just Ryzen even alderlake some soc like i5 1230u can be locked to consume less than 30W and give better battery life than M1/M2 new Xps 13 with that cpu have been tested independetly to Stream netflix for 12 hours.

1. Idel power usage
2. Video playback of 1080p video from 100% battery to 0
3. Browsing from 100% to 0
4. Load from 100% to 0
5. Load max Brightness from 100% to 0
6. Power usage when playing witcher 3 etc.
Its comprehensive battery test done by independent 3rd party website and not manufacture claim, not just that laptop there are plenty
And I gave you real world example you lecture me about hypothetical Tdp numbers, nowadays Tdp are useless most cpu can scale from low power to high power depend with manufacture implementation.

M2 beats AMD 6800u processor only in 1 single game (~2 to 3fps more) but overall it still loses, except in battery for low power usages and that 1 game.

Both Intel and Amd raised their game up, we are at the point i3 1220P budget cpu which can be found in sub $300 laptop perform equivalent to M1.

M1/2 is impressive because of its performance while still being super efficient. Even U-series laptop doesn't last as long even with lower performance, at least not until AMD or Intel manage to reduce power to rest of the chipset that ain't in use.
