I need that color accuracy and brightness. That’s why I don’t use an external display. A similar one would be outrageously expensive. Plus, I can’t have one with me on the go. It’s a no-brainer.

Well yes sounds amazing but I9 CPU cost lot less and offers equal or better speeds.
Even a half baked laptop with windows have much more power than Apple PC.
Typing from 16 inch Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16ACH6H with Ryzen 7 5800H, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD disk space and Nvidia Geforce RTX 3070 8GB.

Apple with simmilar specced laptop would cost at least 3500-4000 euros.
For mine i paid 1790 eur.

Even if they are used connected to a monitor, the times the laptop screen is used, it should at least be half decent, and many people don’t even connect it to a monitor.

Anonymous, 01 Dec 2022Why do you really want to use vm, any specific reason? In my case it's easy to explain, I often need to simulate if things work at scale with multiple devices (and services) and different OSes connected over a virtual network. These aren't full simulations for paper grade results (those run on proper servers), but are very much required to test and develop the code that will run in the actual setup. Being able to test things on-the-go even when there is no network connection to the outside world is very much a must, and the whole reason why my laptop requires enough memory for VMs.

Then again, in my field, I rarely see macs being used for proper work. We have plenty of them, but only because they are so nice and portable to travel, do presentation, and speeches -- not the actual work that happens behind the scenes. We have a fleet of Thinkpads and a whole row in a datacenter just for that.

YUKI93, 01 Dec 202296GB RAM? My Intel NUC PC has 32GB RAM and I found that to ... moreIt's a MacBook Pro. It's supposed to be a workstation laptop, so it would make sense for it to have a lot of RAM since workstation computers do need a lot of RAM (the Mac Studio has 128GB RAM max, and the 2019 Mac Pro can go all the way up to 1.5TB of RAM max) - compared to standard consumer computers where 16GB would be the maximum unless you jump to super high end gaming desktops or laptops, where 32GB is more common.

Also, I guess this also means that the M2 Ultra will possibly have 192GB of RAM? And if a M2 Extreme happens (there were rumors at the start of the year but they have died down), then we could possibly see 384GB of RAM on that...

Anonymous, 30 Nov 2022Intel does not make crap chips like samsung makes tensynos. ARM is way more efficient than x86 chips for years now.

Intel basically locked x86 to themselves. Their decades long anti competitive stance lead to stagnation which lead to them being surpassed by a different architecture. Intel is a warning against monopolies, just because you came first to a scene , locking the whole scene to you would work against you in the long term.

The company's capitalization peaked in 2000 and ever since it is trending down. It pretty much shows the trajectory of the company (started in the '60s, peaked in the '90s and ever since then they serve as a door-stop , one which is only lately being overcome).

Seriously, If you want to buy a laptop with a good budget, most options available are with 720p panels, even with 9th o 10th gen intel chips with all the fancy ports. Well, except TB ports of course.
Fortunately, 10th 11th and 12th gen budget ones are starting to come out with 1080p panels.
On a 14inch Display, I feel like 1080p should be the minimum resolution.
Display Quality is another matter which most wont mind if its in colour for day-to-day use
