Anonymous, 21 Dec 2022Just go to service center to replace. No? You still have to... moreDon't come and cry here if you get ripped off by service centres.

About time! I definitely want to see the Fairphone effect on all future smartphones. Not everyone always replaces smartphones every year or two.

Wow that's a good law, especially for the recycling part. It's also quite protectionist in the end, since there is zero of those materials on the EU territory. Forcing recycling will reduce dependence from China

walkman8, 21 Dec 2022It's like EU is trying to be ostracized by major phone... moreI live in India. in my experience removable battery is a good move . here 3rd party repair service put non standard SMALL baterry inside phones and just use glue to keep the phone from sound like ludo dice . and there's no way for us to know because the panel in glued . it happened with my nokia 6.1 plus .millions of simple people have been scammed like this i am sure .I think India should at least mandate removable battery as well.

beside why are you taking manufacturer side in this ?? keep in mind that not all people can afford to pay 100 dollars to authorised service center to replace their battery ,whereas the 4yo phon's main board might be on it's last leg. when the main board die the brand new battery just turn into ewaste. I say let them trillion dollar company get off their lazy Butt and find a way

Xiaomi has the best battery removal latch, the battery xomes out with no hassle and without bending.
Apple pull tabs are horrendous, it's impossible to remove the battery without damaging it.
Samsung devices needs heating, but can be removed quite easily.

But even a number as big as 100 different standard batteries would be better than the current situation.
