The Asus Zenfone 9 is lacking wireless charging, not a telephoto; I can live without the latter, but the former is a must these days for any flagship-grade phone. Hopefully Asus will address this omission in the Zenfone 10, and not mess with the great looking design too much; that would make it the phone to get for those of us who want a reasonably compact phone with flagship specs.

asus zenfone 9... i like how some of this picked this phone, uncompromised compact flagship like the 5iv...
google pixel 7 series also makes sense to be picked, not really of a "powerhouse" due to its "okay" speed... but the npu has improved...
pixel 6a is quite a sweet spot... it just make things done, and with feature drops here and there, it is more enjoyable to use as a midrange... day by day...
...
12s ultra just relies on its inch sensor, but others, like x80 and x90 series just give way better camera experience and output...
samsung is just overrated, but not to discredit their farther zoom reach and longer software updates...

C... moreSome of the issues you listed were the same for every other flagship launched during the same period so I don't think the masses care, except for enthusiasts perhaps, while some issues are pretty subjective, such as the UI, camera output, et cetera. So, sorry to say but the reality is that most Android brands other than Samsung failed to attract consumers into buying it or not available in specific markets.

They’ve already scrapped most of their proprietary apps. My main problem is that Sony’s austere, minimalist approach doesn’t suit the fluffy, whimsical nature of Android 12/13.

At least you do, in a way, agree that 'zero compromises' is a bit of a stretch for Samsung phones as they are skimping out on many features for their price tag. Even their mid-rangers are getting worse in this regard.

Near 0 compromises: Let's see
- GOP scandal. CPU activity is capped, except for benchmarks
- inferior screen compared to expensive phones
- slower than phones with same SoC
- too much bloatware, all samsung apps except gallery are worse than google's.
- no jack, no micro sd, useless curved screen
- photos by it are insult to the art of photography
- 8K videos with extreme low bitrate (at least looks like 23u is gonna fix it with 200Mbps)
