Ming-Chi Kuo: the iPad mini isn't going away yet, the foldable iPad will be pricey

I'm not happy with my iPad Mini 6, but I think this would be a huge mistake. Foldables have a lot of impractical issues, but small tablets are exactly the opposite, the most practical devices. Small, easy to carry, just as functional as a full sized device, usually cheaper. Foldables have a crease, are more expensive, a less than desirable aspect ratio, easier to break, specialized parts. So many reasons why a foldable replacing a small tablet will fail. People who want small tablets want the most practical thing and a foldable is the complete opposite.

I totally doubt foldable can really replace tablet since the tablet can give wider display. Also, it's much easier to produce and cheaper to build compared to foldables.

I actually like the mini. Except for the aspect ratio. But gotten used to it. Maybe they can add an extra .1 or .2 inches. Into that small body. Good mini that they got.

Daemon Targaryen, 29 Dec 2022I have the previous Z Flip and rotate between that, Razr 5G... moreI share the same opinion as you. Foldable Flip phones are the way to go. And I think I will wait until their 5th gen to grab one

Anonymous, 29 Dec 2022I have a Z Flip 4. The folding novelty was cool for a while... moreI have the previous Z Flip and rotate between that, Razr 5G, iPhone SE 3, and a recently acquired iPhone X. I still prefer Android, flips, and a fingerprint security.
The novelty hasn't worn off on me because I love flipping it open and close and love the portability when closed. The Folds with the book-style are the ones I don't want because I've never been into tablets.
Razr's cover display is bigger at 2.7 inches but Flip 3's can be far more useful with CoverScreen OS.
My New Favorite Phones Of All-Time
1. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 (2021)
2. Motorola Razr 5G (2020)
3. Google Pixel 3 (2018)
4. Apple iPhone SE (2022)
5. Apple iPhone X (2017)
6. Essential Phone (2017)
7. Apple iPhone 7 (2016)
8. Apple iPhone SE (2016)
9. LG G5 (2016)
10. Google Pixel (2016)
11. Xiaomi Mi 3 (2013)
12. HTC One M7 (2013)
13. Google Nexus 5 (2013)
14. Apple iPhone 4S (2011)
15. Apple iPhone 4 (2010)
16. Google Nexus One (2010)
17. Apple iPhone (2007)
18. Nokia N82 (2007)
19. LG V20 (2016)
20. Samsung Galaxy S7 edge (2016)
21. Apple iPhone 12 mini (2020)
22. Microsoft Lumia 640 (2015)
23. Samsung Focus (2010)
24. Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (2013)
25. LG G3 Beat (2014)
My list can go up to 50 as I've owned 50 phones in 23 years (since December 25, 1999). But my notes are on my iPhones and I'm currently typing from my Pixel 3, so I'll do only half.
I still own #1-9, 11, 13, and 14 but thinking of getting the Pixel 1 again but this time in black for unlimited ORIGINAL size storage for life on Google Photos. Only recently ordered an iPhone 4S from eBay. My second time owning it. Still have the 2G on my wishlist.
I may also get an iPhone 13 mini because I want 5G and wireless charging even though I didn't have the best experience from the 12 mini. I could also get a Pixel 4 for $80 from OfferUp just to try out Soli. I generally rotate between my first 8 since my G5's battery is completely dead.
I think foldable flip phones are the future for folks looking for a more pocket-friendly phone to carry. Apple will make them mainstream once they release an iPhone Flip beyond 2024.

I have a Z Flip 4. The folding novelty was cool for a while - but my next one will be a slab style phone. The hinge is a liability

Foldable ipad would just be a piece of expensive POS without macOS. The ipadOS is currently crippling the M1/M2 hardware.
