It's not just the screen size but the width that matters, I switched from the LGV30 (6") to the Asus Zenfone 8 (5.9") but lost 6.9mm in width and whilst the Zenfone feels great in the hand my average size fingers still feel too fat and I'm constantly making typos. Typing on the LGV30 was a dream.

If I can’t use it one handed with just my thumb, I‘m not going to buy it. Ideally 4“ to 5“. Certainly no more than 5“ under any circumstances.

6.5 to 6.7 is just right. 6.4 getting too small, moving to 7" unnecessary big but they're maybe. Would consider foldable for bigger (not yet). I do all kind of stuff including office tasks, watch media, TV on a phone. Screen size does matter.

It depends on aspect ratio. Both Sony Xperia 5 iv and Samsung Galaxy S22 has the same 6.1" screen size, but the Sony has a 21:9 aspect ratio whereas the Samsung has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Shorter aspect ratio means shorter body but less battery capacity.

I believe that the problem is in the sales and marketing strategy rather than the screen size, for example, I want to buy a flagship device for my wife with flagship grade cameras, that is not available on the Plus or vanilla devices, they should really give the cameras of the Ultra to the Plus so they can sell, my wife simply doesnt like a phone with a screen over 6.5-6.6 max, she is a small person and her hands simply can not handle the staggering size of the Ultra.

People can have hand mobility or pain issues and they’ll still get hit with the “phones are big now, just get bigger hands lol” 🙄

People who want smaller phones don’t want every phone to be small… They just want the ability to choose a size that fits their needs, without always being forced to choose a 7 inch brick.

Basically, a large phone with a 16:9 ratio, 5.63 inch screen, 2560 x 1440p resolution, SAM-OLED 120Hz, with Flat Screen, Square Corners, and a Very Slim Bezel.
...the closest match would be the Samsung Note 4-Exynos, but that's very outdated now.
The point being is to maximise the screen size, while making it pocket-friendly.

                        My alternate preference would be: B, H, i, O, T, X.
That's for a small phone with 21:9 ratio, 6.01 inch screen, 2560 x 1098p resolution, IPS 60Hz, with Flat Screen, Rounded Corners, and a Slim Bezel.
...the closest match would be the Sony Xperia 5 mk IV, which is a new device.
The point here now is to maximise one-handed use, while making it as large as possible.

Daemon Targaryen, 15 Jan 2023Actually, iPhone mini failed because of price AND it was sm... moreI agree the older phones like a decade ago had better designs, because there was no punch hole or notch, there was notification light and such features. There was also letters or brandings like on Nokia phones which had on top right side or Sony phones which had it on bottom side. Some even had a light bar like my Xperia SP had. The unihertz tank is a nice phone and I'd have absolutely no problem carrying one because of battery capacity being big in that. Actually I was even considering importing a unihertz but again, high custom duties spoil all the fun.

As for the iPhone mini, I still believe it was the price that failed it because it has indeed sold well. The price here is currently about $600 for a 128 GB one but that's not a problem. The thing is, the battery health falls really quick in that thing and apple has raised replacement costs to $99 (taxes extra) so I got to spend that in less than two years of buying it

Some phones have even 21:9 ratio. If the ratio keep getting bigger we will have to use a magnifying glass to see what's on the screen.

the thing is you cant have a small screen with higher resolution. at most maybe 720p to 1080p...and for flagship having 720p/1080p for today standard is a big NO.

I love compact design hence I using a 6.4-inch screen phone. Not a big fan of a big screens, not above 6.5
