I don't care about fast charging at all. Fast charging just degrades the battery quicker. I don't want to buy a new phone every year. Just put in a bigger battery, have it last all day long, and as long as it charges while i sleep (6-8 hours) I'll be happy.

No matter how fast a "fast charger" is, if the battery lasts all day, I still have to stop and find a charger for 10-15 minutes. A slow charging phone with a big battery = 0 interruption in my day.

I don't want fast charging with current lithium batteries. Fast charging will damage your battery. Despite that im charging my phone during night so I don't need fast charging. I also don't buy smartphones with average or worse battery performance.

Anonymous, 22 Jan 2023Meh, i'd sooner safe charging that's isnt going t... moreIt's just their way of bragging about some inovation perhaps. But in reality those ultra charging speeds aren't any inovation. Just a silly game of pushing figures. Beyond a point, that 120 watts isn't of much worth, because the battery capacity is not that large sized to begin with. It may make a difference when the phone battery is about 10 Ah but at 5 Ah capacity like current phones, it's just not worth it

Big companies like Samsung and Apple can literally enter and win this fast charging race, but they know that this race isn't worth running. It's the race of 🤡

Anonymous, 22 Jan 2023All flagships should come with at least 65W. It still blows... moreAnd guess what? S23 series will be again the best selling android smartphones. As always. Because real people don't care about charging speed and any other so geeky $hit.

Smart opinion, 22 Jan 2023I was literally an ex-chinese phone user (Xiaomi) and move ... moreI owned a Xiaomi redmi note 5 pro (a.i. Dual camera), bought it new for around £150 about 6 years ago and it ran perfectly fine. No lagging, could run emulators decently with the SD 636 and had pretty good battery life. Also must be forgetting about phones like the mi 10 ultra and mi 11 ultra, still some of the best camera phones today and most people seem happy with the software (even if it's polished as what Huawei or Oppo offer/offered)

I've owned multiple Huawei phones, easily best experience on a phone you could of had and the phones quality was far better than whatever apple or Samsung are chugging out while offering more useable features on their devices.

Oneplus phones used to be peoples favourite android software experience for years and were seen as a hero brand really. (people don't like the Oppo software integration probably because it's changed how Oneplus phones feel, have very good software and UI now atleast)

My current Oppo Find X5 is a far better software and hardware device than my last pixel 6 pro, basically hated that device from day one that had constant software and hardware issues, also it rattled and all time and software was awful (each update was to fix the 6 pro and it didn't even do that with half of them, barebones android is boring and questionable with its settings and software choices).

Also Samsung, apple and used to be Google (they are OK with pixel phones currently, not the worst though) have the worst customer services out of any mobile device company on the market and have been for many, MANY years. The best customer service from a mobile phone company are funnily enough Huawei, oppo and Xiaomi (tech reviewers doing experiments, own experience and reading personal reviews of other customers).

Clearly isn't true that apple and samsung dominate with quality and hardware (you clearly haven't been keeping up with last few years of security flaws and bugs on those devices, my partner has issues with her iPhone 13) its just they spend more money marketing and advertising more than anyone else, they best at it and talking a good game about themselves and people believe it, simple psychology tbh that you learn in college.

Meh, i'd sooner safe charging that's isnt going to damage my battery. I think some of the chinese phone makers don't have any innovations so they just slap a higher wattage into their phones to make it look like they are advancing. I don't think their safety checks are probably as rigorous as others. Samsung have been burned by exploding batteries before so i'm happy to take whatever limit they deem feasible.

Smart opinion, 22 Jan 2023I was literally an ex-chinese phone user (Xiaomi) and move ... moreSo your battery was/is swollen on your Xiaomi, yet you still choose to use it as your secondary phone. Sounds very smart indeed.

I think, if the phone price below $650, it must have Super fast charging. My Xiaomi 11 ($625) able to charged with 120W, it really help my job. I mean, where i faced with hectic tasks but forget to charge my phone, the Turbo charge helped.
And after 2 years the battery life feels just drop a Few.
I think its okay, because the phone is not Overpriced when i bought it.

Is the heat from ten minutes of fast charging more harmful than the heat from 2-3 hours of wireless charging though?

I really don't care how fast my phone charges. What I care about is if the charge will last till the next time I can plug the charger in. Usually that means it has to survive until night. Then, when I wake up it has to have 100% to survive the next day.

I don't care if it will charge from 0 to full in 15 minutes if I can't access a wall socket.

Martian, 22 Jan 2023Whether or not they are, it's usually because of brand... moreI was literally an ex-chinese phone user (Xiaomi) and move to Samsung in 2020 because i was dissapointed with the quality of battery (swollen battery) and poor software support (fewer than 2 years of support). I'm giving story based on my real experience. Now i am using my Xiaomi as my secondary phone (2nd SIM).

So, ok let say i accept your argument, that people choose Samsung or Apple because of the brand value. Well, you know... the only way any brand could have high brand value is by making high quality product, because if the product is not good, the consumer would stop using and promoting the product which result into decreasing brand value.

So, in the end, Samsung and Apple have better quality phone (no matter which features) compared to chinese phone maker.

                            So,

Faster charging should be introduced in flagships from Samsung, Apple etc. Since they lack behind a significant amount, since Samsung has been stuck with 45 w for 2-3 years and Apple a maximum of 30 watts (Iphone 14 pro max, using 30w adapter if i recall correctly, but only for a few minutes).

If Oneplus can do it at 150w, then why can't Samsung and Apple?

for me 80-100 watt would be the sweet spot for now

Considering how many decades battery and charging technologies has been in development, it should be instant. Or at the very least be 5min or less.

dbjungle, 22 Jan 2023I see people saying this alot about Android phones, but I h... moreMost phones from mid-range to flagship do remain quite fast after 2 years, just not as fast like day one. I have a 4 year old OnePlus flagship that still appears to be fast, just that it is not actually so fast because for most people, they don't push limits of their device, so they hardly see the difference. Me, I play heavy games on it so over the time I've noticed the heating, load times, battery performance, frame rates and etc stuff. So there's a slight difference on flagship phones, and considerable difference in performance in mid-range phones. Again, this won't be an issue until one pushes the device to the absolute max. Only at that point, the lag becomes evident
