Weekly poll: how fast should fast charging be?

22 January 2023
When it comes time to get a new phone, how fast would you want it to do a full 0-100% charge? What about fast wireless charging?

Wireless charging is so stupid and unnecessary. It isn't even true wireless and you can use your phone less freely than with wired charging. Also there are full waterproof phones that are charged through wire so removing charging port doesn't have any benefit because apple is gonna use all kind of excuses when they remove it.

Another very important point is that wireless charging is extremely inefficient because it only uses about 50% of the electricity it receives so you will use more electricity which means higher bills plus less eco friendly. Wireless is so stupid, how hard it is for you to just plug in the damn wire?

I dont care how fast it charge. Problem is why phone drain it so fast.
Yes we have powerful hardware with HD screens but chips have all those cores to use that power only when needed and HD screens doesnt really take that much power.
So still main problem with battery drain is system and apps. Android it self still awful and power management(because why optimize something if you can just push cpu to max?), and apps lack ANY optimization, no one guide devs to actually optimize code or graphics, its all copy/paste for all those years. Before anyone refine any feature, they are forced to implement more and more useless things or change something due to lack of intelligence in user side...

Its really similar to electric cars. We think we are ecological but all what we do is just push smelly stuff outside our view to some industrial areas. No petrol cars in city? No problem right? The same here. No real optimization because we just can just push the hardware a bit more so app and system will not lag!

Fast charging in real world use basically has no largely noticeable difference on battery life.
I think 65w should be standard whether or not you think you need it, having the option is just convenient. I'm sure given some few more years this would become standard on even the big-name phones.

30 minutes should be enough for me, not crazy fast that it harms the battery and creates compromises, but not too slow that it would leave me waiting either.

Samsung is one if few brands (besides Apple) that has world wide official service center. Most of Samsung user choose to repair its phone directly in Samsung center.

So, to know about problem about Samsung phone you must either be a Samsung technician (which impossible) or spreading fake news about Samsung, like you did before.

Just because you are spreading fake news about Samsung, doesnt make your chinese phone better.

AnonD-731363, 22 Jan 2023Man wrong. To damage the battery temperature must been a l... moreActually you are wrong and understand the battery heat issue even lesser. The Li-Ion/Li-polimer batteries are getting weaker and weaker with every charge anyway, the matter is how weak actually and for how many charging cycles is reliable before reaching, "battery dead levels". Why is that? Well heat or extreme cold can and will destroy it eventually, that is for sure. So the idea behing the "if you want more charging cycles, keep the battery between 15 and maximum of 45 celsius as much as possible," is to keep the battery for as long as possible. Any kind of heat that goes higher then 20 celsius will cause damage to the battery, but that's the perks of having and using one. So 65 Celsius will cause without any doubt way more damage to the battery per charging cycle then 30, it might not even be possible to charge it to 100% because the heat is so high, charging controller might think it already reached it's fullness. 70 degress are already alarming levels that will cause the battery to drop charging acceptance ability to worrying levels. Keep charging cycles that high, and you got yourself a dead battery in a matter of months if not weaks only.

All flagships should come with at least 65W. It still blows me away how quick 65W charges up. But the S23 series will come with 25W and 45W, and thats just so disappointing. Do they really think the 8Gen2 will save the S23 from its pathetic 3900mah? I hope Google features 65W on Pixel 8 series because Samsung seems like is failing already from delivering a legitimate upgrade over the previous models, or even their devices way back from 2020.

Funny how most people who complain about bad fast charging is have never using fast charging phones. You guys are just overstating the impact fast charging has on the battery of a phone without ever using one.
I mean with how fast charging has been around on almost every phone coming out for some few years now in Europe and some other parts of the world, by now you'd expect to see so many complaints from customers about how their batteries are "crapping out within a year", based on how these guys are so against fast charging here, but people are still using these phones like normal. The impact fast charging has on the battery in real world use is negligible enough for people not to notice.
One thing that is noticed though is the convenience of having fast charging. I won't say fast charging is something you need but having it is so so convenient... charge for like 10mins from a flat battery @ simple 65w when you're in a rush and you've already got like 40-50%

There's a reason phone manufacturers didn't immediately jump to 240W. Security measures, etc. Heat is more of a degrading factor. Charging the note 12 explorer at 210W for 10 minutes won't even let it overheat while most samsungs charging at 25W get hotter than the sun after half an hour.

The fastest charging smartphone released in the past year is from Samsung.
The Samsung xCover 6 Pro can charge its 4,000mAh battery from 1% to 99% in less than 60 seconds. It's fantastic. On top of that, they also have the best technology in the battery where it lasts around 8x longer lifecycle a competing Xiaomi smartphone. If you know, you know.

It's pretty accurate (provided it has data of at least a week of charging) upto 75 percent of battery health

Below that, battery loses it's efficiency and takes more current to charge than it can output (shorts internally) so it can have very erratic behavior e.g. very bad standby /sot, phone shutting off at high power demand (camera, gaming, even a call in a bad reception area).

Bloated/ swollen battery is one of two MAIN REASONS i move to Samsung brand after using 2 different Xiaomi phones (chinese brand) for 6 consecutive years. The other reason is lack of software support, my last Xiaomi only got 18 months of patch/updates. Wth?

Based on my own bad experience with my old Xiaomi (chinese phone), since 2020 i dont care about charging speed anymore and looking for more reliable with long software support like from Samsung or Apple.

Good news is, the percentage of marketshare of Samsung and Apple is growing every year. I wonder there must be a lot of dissapointed ex-chinese phone user like me, who choose to move into Samsung/Apple.
