Samsung Galaxy S23 series to use a customized Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with higher clock speed

19 January 2023
It will be called "Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy."

haha oh dear koreans: you should build first processors without heat or burns or throttlings 🔥🔥🔥🔥

I saw reviews for the Red Magic 8 Pro and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 does not overheat like the 888 through 8 Gen 1. Battery life is going to be improved too. It's one of Qualcomm's best flagship chip in a long time. Makes me want to upgrade to both a Fold 5/Flip 5.

Otto, 19 Jan 2023If anything, they should downclock the SoC instead of overc... moreYou can underclock the processor on the ZFold4/Flip4 with "light mode". I use it on my Flip and the battery lasts all day without fail, and without any real noticable performance loss. Hopefully the S23 has this feature

        Quiet you are a poet

lewein, 19 Jan 2023and it will make the standby drain horrible. I want to buy... moreThat single fast core has NOTHING to do with the stand-by power drain, it is not in used then.
Only the efficiency cores are used in stand-by.

Pedzio, 19 Jan 2023Samsung's gonna f*ck up the chip again... Classic samsung.Nope, this "leak" has no sources and is false. 8gen2 will be made by TSMC

"The 4nm modified chip is also said to be manufactured by Samsung's foundry instead of TSMC"

I've heard this rumor on phonearena as well and asked for source, but was never given any. I hope it's just a rumor as some already noted and the SoC is TSMC made as the other SD8gen2.

Surely we would be able to control the clock speed on our own phones if we want to save battery right?

                    Right?

What exactly am I missing out on by having a Samsung fabricated SOC instead of TSMC?

This phone has more horsepower than any app or game can throw at it and the thermodynamics are excellent, it literally never heats up. And I get around 8hrs of SOT with 85% battery protection enabled.

No using exynos gonna make samsung lose money through samsung semicon.
This could easily be over 1 billion dollars depending on how many exynos units were being sold yearly.

Ppl here think samsung woukd ditch exynos without asking anything in exchange from qualcomm? LOL

Otto, 19 Jan 2023If anything, they should downclock the SoC instead of overc... moreexactly, but MANAGEMENT, want to have the benchmarks on the first place and surpass apple if possible just to have something to brag about.

"The chip was also rumored to be manufactured by Samsung’s foundry rather than TSMC, but the original leaker of that information has since retracted that idea."

The leaker was lying for attention.

That higher clock speed is just a silly gimmick for benchmarks. Non-benchmark apps will likely get aggressive thermal throttling, games will probably get locked to 60 Hz and touch input will probably get an aggressive touch deadzone. My Galaxy Tab S7+ is absolutely awful for games due to all of this.
