Windows gives that ability whereas Android and ios don't. What good is a powerful ARM when it runs on handicapped OS made for mobile phones?

After reading comments from SuperAndriod and dbcount I have to agree. There has been little changes in the tablet marketplace for the past 2 years; expect no changes for this year as well. Therefore there should be some good deals on tablets in 2023 as companies try to push selling them away to make room for next year. If you just want to browse the Web, emailing, and other casual uses the tablet should serve you very well. Any more than that then a laptop or desktop should do it. Chromebooks will only fill the education niche. In summary: with no new innovative tablets, laptops and desktops coming this year, 2023 will be a buyer's market especially during holidays.

It's solely Google's fault. Outside of very basic apps, it's not empowered chrome to do much else. There should have been an ecosystem to do serious productivity things. Because for basic things, most cheap windows laptops could be a better choice. Also, slowly chrome books have been trying to compete with windows for getting costlier. A lot of Android tablets do what chromebooks do, just a lot better, and at a fraction of the cost.

A Tablet contains bigger screen which is good for internet browsing and reading which is almost similar feelings like a desktop PC. I don’t know why people yet don’t like a Tablet ?

blue, 05 Feb 2023ChromeOS was sentenced to death from the beginning. By which court ? 😒

Super Android 22, 05 Feb 2023Not really, 8 gen 1/8 gen 2/a15/a16/m1/m2 are either just b... moreThe problem with Arm is closed nature, with X86 you get removable ram, plenty of PCIe, you can increase Gpu perfomance etc in this Area X86 is better choice.

Also things like Gpu and Ram they are interchangeable you can use Lppdr5x too in X86 plenty of laptop with those soldered memory like phone, but in future they will be socketed with CAMM.

Super Android 22, 05 Feb 2023Not really, 8 gen 1/8 gen 2/a15/a16/m1/m2 are either just b... moreNo, the current most powerful supercomputer is based on AMD's Epyc CPU*. It beat the previous winner's ARM-powered supercomputer by more than double the PetaFLOPS speed. If you ask me about the x86-x64 CPU, I doubt it will ever go extinct because of future upgradeability, unlike ARM SoCs that are only soldered to the motherboard.

Anonymous, 05 Feb 2023Why get Android tablet and ipad when you can get foldable t... moreNot really, 8 gen 1/8 gen 2/a15/a16/m1/m2 are either just behind (talking 10-15% worst case) , mostly on par or beat (m1 and m2 destroy a lot of them) current mid range/high end laptops in performance that don't use dedicated gpus/desktop cpus (literally same single and multi core scores in comparable benchmarks) and beating the ryzen 6800u in gpu performance (8 gen 2 has 3.4 teraflops vs 3.3 in the 680m, the current igpu King, adreno 730 has ray tracing too).

Current laptop cpus use, at best, the same speed ram (6400mhz for ddr5/lpddr5. 8400mhz on lpddr5x on the current arm processors) except only dual channel in most cases vs quad channel on ARM processors, they trade cache sizes and transistor count the only difference is the ARM processors use about a quarter of the power draw and generally are in devices with far better mobile connectivity, superior screens with better battery life (specially apples M processors).

It's do you want screen real estate/does your work require an x86 based platform for certain workloads or you want portability/a better content consumption screen (worst case you stream to a TV, so easy now). Companies like Huawei and Samsung who have superb desktop experiences from your phone/tablet too so it's not like you can't have a desktop experience and apple's integration between their devices is unrivalled.

You can attach keyboards and mice (get cheap Bluetooth set and you're off, cant see why you couldn't connect a USB hub to a tablet/phone or wired connection), you can use gaming controllers via Bluetooth too/wire seeming modern controllers use USB C, and if you have Bluetooth headphones like a normal person then connect them to a phone and tablet and even a TV if you want, at the same time, while being able to cast/use desktop mode with instant audio routing too plus phones and some tablets have far superior front facing cameras vs webcams aswell.

At this point it is purely your use case for the device, mobile/arm based tech is quickly catching and overtaking the ancient x86 based cpus (most powerful supercomputer is arm based isn't it?)

Anonymous, 05 Feb 2023Totally doubt it. A Chromebook laptop with Intel Core CPU s... moreI didn't even bother using a Chromebook laptop when I started using Android Desktop Mode. My 2018 Huawei Mate 20 and my 2019 LG V50 with respective Kirin 980 and Snapdragon 855 SoC are still way more powerful than any sub-$600 Chromebook laptop you can throw in. Also, I don't even spend huge money buying both phones. I got my Mate 20 for just $140 and my V50 for about $260, and they are much faster than my old $300 Chromebook laptop with a crap Intel Celeron CPU. If I want to use desktop Linux, I use the Modded Ubuntu Xfce distro from Andronix. Thanks to Android Desktop Mode, I don't see the need to buy a Chromebook laptop or even an Android tablet. Just connect my phone to an external monitor or a lapdock, and off I go. It couldn't have been any simpler.

I think the problem with tablet sales is that they just keep releasing roughly the same things. The market needs more options. Otherwise people will stick to their default choices or worse... Stick to what they already have. The Lenovo Legion Y700 was the most intriguing tablet of 2022 for me. There was a lot of pent up demand for Android tablets back in 2021, but a lot of those consumers already got what they wanted. Yet every company had to make a Snapdragon 870 11" tablet in 2022. Puzzling. I did buy the Realme Pad Mini as well. There are a lot of faults with it, but I applaud Realme for offering something different. Lenovo has a similar device coming as well.

Why get Android tablet and ipad when you can get foldable touchscreen windows laptop which is more powerful, has physical keyboard, USB ports and of course, a headphone jack? Android and ios are useless for any real task With a proper laptop you get desktop apps and can get actual work done. It can potentially be only pc for many people, whereas with an Android/ios tablet you still need a windows pc. I wish none would buy those useless tablets that don't even have headphone jack nowadays.
