You can't download any kind of apks and are forced to use the app store
If Android takes that away then what's the difference really?

Will be the last Android for my Samsung A52. Will upgrade to A55 or buy a flagship instead.

Some updates change the look of the app which people might not like and want the old one back or even worse the new update might remove some features or make them for money
Older versions should always be available for those kind of things
I use this app called floating apps which lets me watch a yt video and play music in the background without having to use the app itself and later they removed this feature (likely because Google forced the developers to remove it as this is a premium feature on yt) and they can take this away from me over my dead body

Narazumono, 09 Feb 2023Android 14 will be the death of Android phones No sideloa... moreIt will only block really old apps not all sideloading. And no iOS is too limited and not that serious and advanced like Android. So no. Android is the king. And don't tell me these 2 lies: you have never used an iPhone or you are poor that's why you use Android. Every iPhone fanboy tells that lies.

                      (Anyway, source:)
                      Block installation of apps
Malware often targets older API levels to bypass security and privacy protections that have been introduced in newer Android versions. To protect against this, starting with Android 14, apps with a targetSdkVersion lower than 23 cannot be installed. This specific version was chosen because some malware apps use a targetSdkVersion of 22 to avoid being subjected to the runtime permission model introduced in 2015 by Android 6.0 (API level 23).

On devices that upgrade to Android 14, any apps with a targetSdkVersion lower than 23 will remain installed.

You can test apps targeting an older API level using the following ADB command
                      (etc.)

What's stopping Android 15 to raise the bar? Make the minimum be below Android 6. Maybe with Android 16 it's now below 7. They now have their foot in the door.

Can't wait for Samsung to fix and break Animations again in One UI 6 so I need to wait a full release because that seems like the way it is.

Issue right now with One UI 5: You can't swipe up to close an app and immediately swipe back down to resume to your last app. Also, the animations for that is now tied to Animator scale when it really shouldn't be. On an A51, opening app switcher is much quicker, but they screwed with the animation.

One of my old A series devices with One UI 3 literally navigates quicker and is more snappy without overscroll than an S20 FE 5G with One UI 5.

WinAnon95, 09 Feb 2023'Almost no apps specifically target Android versions t... moreCorrect. The only apps that would be blocked would probably be really old games, or some of those obscure flashlight apps from back when that was a thing. almost no mainstream apps that people use are targeted to lower android versions

0odle-noodle, 09 Feb 2023you clearly didn't read the damn article. It prohibits... more'Almost no apps specifically target Android versions that low.'

There are actually a few, but to be fair the majority of that few are very old versions of apps that have had hundreds of updates since 2015, or just apps that nobody really cares about anymore. There are a few important and historical ones, but they're already archived and can probably just be emulated on a PC or something.

And as a side note: Android versions 13 and below should still support the 'Android 6 and below' apps, unless Google decides to do a big security patch for all of them.
