Had it not been because WhatsApp dropped support for Windows Phone OS in January 2020, I won't have had to go back to Android by force.

Anonymous, 10 Feb 2023I think we can get a 8cx Chromebook in that price. There's not a single 8cx Chromebook in existence to date. Even Chromebook with 7c+ Gen 3 still has yet to exist. To date, the most powerful Snapdragon SoC you can have on a Chromebook laptop or tablet is the 7c Gen 2, which has comparable performance to the Snapdragon 730/730G/732G for Android smartphones.

The only problem with android 14 is not sideloading olders apps which for me are old games (since they were higher in quality compared to current games eg Brothers a tale of 2 sons vs literally any other modern game of its genre)

I am still waiting when will the root feature be available? if it's because of security, why don't they find out to be safe? This is much more useful..

"Android 14 will focus on optimizing background processing to ensure optimal resource consumption and improved battery life"
Yeah good luck with that 😇 Android will always know as hungry resources OS 😏

"Android 14 will not allow you to install apps with a targetSdkVersion lower than level 23 which corresponds to Android 6". The design is very ouch
I remembered when I tried installing older apk through Android 12 GO, some features won't work while others can, but for upcoming Android 14 it won't install older/outdated apps anymore

Narazumono, 09 Feb 2023The only thing that's "limited" on ios is no... moreyou can't use adaway on ios!
But true that android has almost become as restricted as ios. Soon there won't be any reason to use Android. They day Google removes ability to root, then no more adaway, and no reason to use android anymore so none will buy it.
This may seem like digging own grave for Google's mobile business as none will buy Android, but they'll indeed go as far as digging own grave to make a segment of population happy

I absolutely hate Android UI from 12 onwards. Why can't they bring back fast, functional, simple UI of 10 and 11?

If the new OS version is made with tablets and foldable in mind, we should see wider adoption of Android Desktop Mode to the average consumers. Even the latest Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 can support USB-C 3.1 with wired video output, and that "entry-level" SoC is way faster than any sub-$600 or even sub-$700 Chromebook laptop you can throw in. Anyone who always advocates the idea of a smartphone as a PC knows this is the way to go.

Why would someone make a virus/malware today with target sdk lower than 23? Also even if he did, he can easily change it to 23 and higher, that doesn't change the fact that this app is still a virus or malware and now it will be sideloadable in Android 14. So Google has done nothing to improve security, rather, it makes things inconvenient for end user who may need to use a perfectly safe app that still works but not been updated for many years.
We need to scream at people's ears "newer isn't necessarily better" and wake them up!

Meanwhile, there are phones launched in 2022 that still stuck in Android 12 and don't even get timely security patches. 🤷
