The news is about Whatsapp is pointing out that the personal and group chat is not encrypted by DEFAULT. Which means without doing extra steps, the conversation in Telegram isnt encrypted.

As a Telegram user since 2018, I believe most of people agree that Telegram is not as secure as Whatsapp.
Personal and Group chats on whatsapp are encrypted by default, thats why Whatsapp limits the number of Groups member. Unlike Telegram, where the maximum number of Goups member is unlimited, because its not encrypted.
Telegram is also known as platform for pirating, people could search the name of the digital content, and download illegally from the channel made by pirate.

The guy who said that Whatsapp can't even prove how secure it is because it's closed source, let me know who he is so I can buy him a beer. It's all great for these Meta clowns to point the finger, but they've never had their app audited and it's closed source rofl.

Agree. Telegram is not secure by default. E2ee is not enabled on default regular chats, and not possible in group chats. These are correct. But people will defend Telegram because there are a lot of pirates on it, a lot of pirate groups, so people will defend it.
The current whatsapp, surprisingly, provides the best security. E2ee is by default, and you can turn on encrypted backup as well.

A friend of mine is using both on his old Toshiba from 2009 (with Windows 10) and it runs fine, if anything is making your system slow it would be using the internet without a adblocker on such a old device.

Most people will simply choose the messenger that is more popular in their region, rather than some unicorn

if you use Whatsapp or Telegram, you probably don't care about your messages being encrypted anyways. Facebook owns everything you post through Whatsapp anyways.

I don't need spy level privacy for my conversations, but I do need all the advanced features that telegram offers.
I want to be able to edit my messages, make group polls, etc.

What a funny joke!
The Iranian government banned Telegram and set up a court for it, but Telegram refused to give users' information to the Iranian government
on the first day when WhatsApp was filtered, it disabled all the accounts that were made with Iranian numbers, even abroad!!! I emphasize that all accounts with Iranian numbers even abroad!!!

Any representative for meta should not be allowed to talk about security and privacy. literally ANYTHING is more secure than meta serivces
