[deleted post]Tech industry didn't start in Japan. Back in the 1960s, many products were MADE IN THE USA. They had the #1 economy. If it was made in the USA, it meant QUALITY. Many of the technologies we have today came from European and American inventors like Tesla and Edison.

Back in the 1970s, Americans viewed Japanese products as a joke. The Honda Civic was a junk car during the 70s and most of the 80s. Now it's looked at as a very reliable commuter car that you can also turn into a street racer. Chinese are the real copycats and you're defending them?

The videos for the vivo X Flip are already out. Looks decent. GSMArena hasn't mentioned it yet.

From everything I've read, it's difficult to draw a conclusion for the reason, unless Oppo cannot financially afford it or don't find it financially viable (within that market region). 🤷‍♂️

Thats first Question, no other company complain, 2nd question we are talking SEP here which must be licenced under FRAND, Oppo would win 100% if Nokia Breach Frand, but Oppo didnt pursue this why?

I have been followind Nokia for years, they usual charge less than Competitors especially in Connectivity, Oppo could go to Ericson or Qualcomm they both have similar solutions for these type of things but they wont because Nokia for them is easy prey.

Anonymous, 12 Apr 2023HMD is not Nokia. HMD is another company that pays Noki... moreYeah, really now. Who would buy an unknown brand like hmd that uses NOKIA patent portofolio, when there are etablished and well respected innovative brands like xiaomi, realme, realyou, realnotreal, Micromax, meizu, ulefone, honor, oppo, tecno, vivo, poko and many other "steal from here-> paste there-> sell cheap-> make money-> scrapp brand if not successfull-> find another name-> rewind" ? I mean this "brands" innovated so much, nobody can tell what. They even innovated the mobile phone...making on a boat and the first smartpaste, that's some kind of a phone but worse. Talking about hmd while holding an oppo, is like laughing at AUDI while driving a Lada.

Statements were made that Nokia have nothing to do with HMD's mobile sector. This isn't true, as Nokia hold INVESTMENT INTEREST in HMD, and also regularly finance HMD through loans and investments. Therefore, apart from the brand licensing agreement, it's evident Nokia have a vested interest in HMD, as they part own and help to finance it. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Nokia need this renewal as much as oppo - as according to articles published in October 2022, Nokia's gross margin fell due to this patent issue with oppo, as Nokia were expecting a backlog of pending royalites to be issued in one lump sum. This didn't materialize, affecting their profits. (Source - Reuters - Oct 2022).

Keep in mind, according to other articles, Nokia charged $3.50 (in 2018) for every device sold using their 5G patents, along with additional charges for any of their other patents being used. Qualcomm charged $16.25 for every device sold back in 2018 that were using their patents. (Source - FierceWireless).

With the price increases/inflation, the cost for these patents would have increased exponentially in this current (2022/2023) economic climate. Maybe Oppo cannot genuinely afford to pay, especially if a pending royalty lump sum (possibly equating to $70 million+), is required.

Along with their brand licensing agreement, owning 10% in a company while routinely investing millions, shows that Nokia have a lot more vested in HMD than many people want to believe.
