One could probably say that Linux as the desktop OS is getting closer and closer hehe.

kevvv, 16 Apr 2023Stop with that bullsh--. You never really need Windows syst... moreYou never experienced anything you said. I got a light cheap dev laptop with 4 ram for certain tests. At idle it eats up 50% of ran at highest for windows 10 22h2 (1909 is much more light) and 60% for windows 11 22h2. Only the other hand I experienced Ubuntu way more buggy in the same machine although Linux mint was bit better.

LazyEngineer, 16 Apr 2023It would be a crime if they release it with windows instead... moreWindows doesn't eat up 5gb normally. It's based on how much ram is available there. And for gaming Linux can't even think to beat windows doesn't matter it SD is still the best affordable handheld out there. And about window there are obviously lighter versions, that can be helpful for extensive use case scenario .

I've tried to run gta iv on windows ons team deck and i barely got 24 fps, with steam os I got solid 60 fps 99% of the time. I've seen it myself. Steam os is well optimized.

kevvv, 16 Apr 2023Stop with that bullsh--. You never really need Windows syst... moreYou have no idea how ram or programming works you should stop spouting bs. Windows is bloated yes, but it is still designed to use as much ram as it needs and holding apps in memory is precisely what makes programs run smoothly. If you hate the bloat that much you have 3 options: use a debloated version like revision os or debloat it yourself with ntlite or use a linux distro. Also i have never seen windows use 70% of 4 GB ram, the most I see on pc with 16 GB is 2 GB ram usage

kevvv, 16 Apr 2023The main problem is too much RAM is wasted for Windows syst... moreFirst of all. If you're using windows. What programs are you running? How many background apps that are running? How many startup apps are there? Did you Disable SysMain Service? Are you using Virtual Memory and if so, how much do you allocate?
From my experience. DRM and DENUVO are considered as RAM EATERS.

The Steam Deck is a mediocre portable PC, and the price reflects that. The ROG Ally will be more expensive, and it's a much better product. I don't see an issue with that.

AnonD-454049, 16 Apr 2023unused ram is wasted ramStop with that bullsh--. You never really need Windows system to uses 70% of your RAM. No and never be, even if you're ran on 4GB of RAM. Windows, even every operating system in this universe supposed to take the amount of RAM that they really need to consume for NORMAL use, not as much as they can, because it will never make your device run smoother (I'm talking about device with 4GB of RAM and above). I don't need Antimalware Service Executable to use up to 100MB of my RAM.

kevvv, 16 Apr 2023With how RAM-heavy Windows is, no.If Ram is your concern. Why not get a 32GB RAM model? That way. You have a clean 16GB RAM and the rest could go into the GPU memory.

These are the gadgets to collect: Gaming handhelds.
Sega Nomad (1995): Used goes $250 minimum.
While a cell phone from that same year is how much? Probably thrown away. Nobody buys 90s cell phones. You might as well collect Motorola pagers. I'm already trying to get rid of my 2010s smartphones because there are too much stuff I own that I don't need.
Why bother owning an HTC One M7 a third time if all I'm going to do is admire the design and that's it? While you will see prices of the Nintendo 3DS go up since their eShop is closed. Glad I got a Vita back in May 2017 when they went for $100 or less. They'll go for $200+ these days.
Lowest configuration
$399 Valve Steam Deck
$649 Asus ROG Ally
I know some people be hating on the Steam Deck. It's too big, blah blah blah. The verified games won't work and some unverified ones work more flawlessly than the verified ones. But how can you go wrong with $399? That's only $50 more than a Switch OLED and $250 less than this ROG Ally.
I'll see these Chinese brands releasing these Windows PC handhelds for the last 6+ years go for over a grand. Where's the support after it breaks? The GPD Win 4 is my favorite form factor but it's not worth $600+ more than a Steam Deck.
