kevvv, 16 Apr 2023With how RAM-heavy Windows is, no.If Ram is your concern. Why not get a 32GB RAM model? That way. You have a clean 16GB RAM and the rest could go into the GPU memory.

Windows ftw. I will change my laptop setup(for work and gaming) with this. Also willl buy XG Mobile for AAA gaming. I have no interest on linux based custom OS. Windows is better than anything for gaming, also works well for my job.

I don't think Asus can sell the ROG Ally for $399 even of they put the same 64GB eMMC as the Steam Deck. Asus may as well just give 256GB as the base internal storage.

Price of this device vs price of a video card upgrade.. I'm a PC enthusiast and that's how I start my evaluation. From there I remember that the vita is the only portable gaming option that's impressed me. Valve and these folks are making the wrong bet IMHO. How are they going to compete with yearly cellphone releases? Folks are trained to chase specs and os releases without understanding them.. One just need a phone with 'quantum flux' refresh rate marketing and the word garbage will be thrown around about other devices.

This seems to be much better than the Steam Deck.

Daemon Targaryen, 16 Apr 2023Man, you must really hate new technology or affordable gami... moreThe fact that you didn't even dare to mention the PS Vita is the reason Sony won't release a handheld console in the future.

LazyEngineer, 16 Apr 2023It would be a crime if they release it with windows instead... moreYou know that most PC games are only compatible with Windows instead of Linux, right? Sure they can bring developers to port more games on their Linux-based-"ROG OS", but it will take a lot of time until there are much games that are compatible with their OS. You know, there are still many Steam games that even still not compatible with Steam Deck. This step is taken to save that time. I won't argue with you how RAM-heavy and bloated Windows is. Just hope this kind of Windows version that is used on this console is the trimmed version of the desktop one, that is more suitable for handheld consoles.

                          this is insane

Steam Deck is not available to everyone. They have yet to reach global markets. Asus has global reach and that might be detrimental to its success.

It would be a crime if they release it with windows instead of Linux based distros.

Nobody wants windows to guzz 5 gb ram and 15-30% cpu power just during idle on this device and it's already proven by idiots who installed windows on steam deck.

PMKLR3m, 15 Apr 2023Now >SteamDeck< is a joke!Man, you must really hate new technology or affordable gaming.

The lowest price for this is $649. That's $250 more than the cheapest Steam Deck. And Valve already has an established ecosystem. The good news for this Asus ROG Ally is they will be sold in retail stores like Best Buy. Places like them can offer a demo. People can check them out and see if they like it. And they do weekly sales. Might be able to pick this up near the price of the $399 Deck on a Black Friday.

As of right now, Steam Deck is still the best when it comes to price for performance ratio. There are better handhelds than it but not $250 to $600+ better. The sweet spot should be under $500. I'll be browsing on OfferUp and hoping to get a second-hand one for $200. I don't care if it's used. Got my Vita slim for $100 and my Switch Lite for $90 which came with BOTW, 64 GB memory card, and carrying case. I try never to spend more than $250 on gaming systems.

I wish Sony and Sega would return to making handhelds. That Sony handheld I keep hearing about sounds like a streaming handheld and a Wii U controller. Why not create a successor to the Xperia Play? Sega was the most experimental during the 90s. I wish they would return to the hardware business.
