Anonymous, 19 Apr 2023you think i believe this nonsense? you think YouTubers will... moreIt depends on the Youtuber. Generally the bigger ones get the phones for marketing purposes from all the big companies. If you see reviews directly after launch events or within a few days then they have received them from the company. Some Youtubers will later buy the phones and conduct the reviews but these reviews will not be until later and are typically smaller youtubers who won't get enough views to make it worthwhile for the company to give them the phone. You can also see this with review sites like gsmarena. When a review comes directly after the launch from gsmarena or within a few days of launch (when there is an embargo period) it means they have been given the phone by the manufacturer or an agent of the manufacturer for marketing. All the big brands use reviewers for marketing and this also helps the reviewer earn revenue from their reviews. It's a win win situation for companies and the reviewers. Also some of the bigger reviewers get to keep the phones which is part of the deal

that is not a camera hump, it is another small phone attached to it. it will even stick out from every protective case. not so practical for daily use.
besides,it is pretty pricey. it won't stand a chance outside of it's homeland. people will go for apple or samsung flagships in €900 territory. they are much better established for better after sales support, they have much better optimized and longer supported software. specs on the paper is not enough to fill the price tag of a phone.
xiaomi is like peugeot of smartphones. it is on par or better on paper compared to a mercedes. but, everybody knows that the driving experience is different so, there will always be a price gap.

1 inch in cylinder format (smartphone cameras) v.s. 1 inch in diagonal format (DSLR)
Xiaomi is still correct in the way they use 1 inch.

Xiaomi's image processing software is not very good. This is based from my experience. The image comes out oversharpened and looked washed out. The hardware stats don't matter much because the software is what processes the images.

Not just "1 inch". That's false advertising. It's not a full inch.

Nobody will want to buy $1000 Xiaomi phones, not even the Chinese. Those who are capable spending $1000 for a phone will buy Apple or Huawei. Only the Xiaomi fanboys pretend they want this phone, and most units will be just Xiaomi sending free review units to YouTubers. This is merely marketing.

Anonymous , 19 Apr 2023"Replacing? Like taking one section of a frame and pas... more"He was talking about frame stacking. Which is basically adding all existing data... So for serving purpose to increase the overall picture quality, colour bits increased to 10 bits or more"
I completely agree and that's exactly the point I was trying to make - the person I replied to said that frame stacking "replaces" data, which was a very weird and confusing way to describe it.
"Your words for hdr "has less data in shadows" prevent the main idea of hdr primarily"
You might want to read what I said again: My comment stated "The whole concept behind the old version of HDR+ is that each frame is underexposed (= has less data in shadows)" - HDR+ is the name of the proprietary multi-frame noise reduction algorithm Google uses on the Google camera app, and the older version of the algorithm used to stack multiple underexposed images to retain highlights. *Each* frame captured this way naturally has more noise in the shadow region than a properly exposed single-frame image does because it's underexposed.
"Yes these are relevant"
I re-read the original comment and I think I see what you mean- If you're saying that dithering works in the same principle as stacking frames as they both revolve around the idea of averaging the value on each pixel, then I guess that kind of makes sense? But wouldn't that invalidate the OP's concern about "not having a true 14-bit ADC" since an 8-bit panel with dithering looks pretty much visually indistinguishable from a "true" 10-bit panel?
