Nick Tegrataker, 19 Apr 2023"It replaces some of data"
Replacing? Like takin... more"Replacing? Like taking one section of a frame and pasting it onto another? No, you're increasing the SNR, and in case of HDR stacking you're definitely adding more data by capturing information that couldn't have otherwise been captured by a single exposure shot. The whole concept behind the old version of HDR+ is that each frame is underexposed (= has less data in shadows) but because they are stacked together the shadows remain relatively clean while underexposure saves highlights from clipping, effectively increasing the dynamic range of the final image."
He was talking about frame stacking. Which is basically adding all existing data. This doesn't increase the amount of data previously collected. Same could be done for gaining HDR content. Staying 8 bits per pixel and stretch the brightness range. But it has a different problem called colour banding. So for serving purpose to increase the overall picture quality, colour bits increased to 10 bits or more. Your words for hdr "has less data in shadows" prevent the main idea of hdr primarily, which is a wider array of more intense colour. And for darkar region more details must be added. For the colour science of black region it stacked all sources colour of rgb. I don't know from where you got this pointless words.
"pixels on a CMOS sensor and dithering on a 8-bit display to emulate 10-bit colours are entirely separate matters and have no relevance to each other whatsoever."
Yes these are relevant unless you don't know about what you're saying. And they're all related weather it's hardware or software based. One the method called A/D by camera makers. Human eyes are believed to be capable of handling 10m to 12m colour differences. So obviously the 12bits, 14bits or even 16bits raw files needed to be squished into 8bits at some point or vise versa for different reasons. It's not like those extra colour shades were produced in somewhere else.

Anonymous, 18 Apr 2023You can unlock those bands via root. No problem. No, they are not there in the hardware. For example band 20 is missing which ia a key 4g band in many European countries. Better buy the global version for those living in many European countries

YUKI93, 19 Apr 2023Don't you read the article? Unlike the 12S Ultra, the ... morei dont know if you read it too, it says various international market - it didnt say ALL international market. Various international markets can mean a few different things. Im lucky enough to be in a country where not all of their models are realeased - I even had to import Mi11 Ultra and as much as i loved the phone, the china Rom was just a little bit too much for me to handle.
The 13Pro is on sale now here but it was just released last month and I loved it when i saw it and was thinking of getting it but i was thinking this 13ultra is to be announced so i decided to wait but now i dont want the 13 Pro anymore. However, again, if this ultra version comes few months later, that will already be few months too old and a bunch of new other models would have come out. They would have sold more devices if they are just releasing it GLOBALLY at the same time.

Ah, an 12S Ultra upgrade but still useful on capturing content. It could be the best feature who want to edit media. Finding good alternative of 13 Ultra that make a last chance to choose.

Anonymous, 18 Apr 2023Very impressive hardware, they did an amazing job. Too bad ... moreXiaomi do support their flagship phones well, including the T series. Can't say the same for Redmi and Poco phones though. Just look at the Redmi Note 12 Pro 4G - it was launched with Android 11 ffs!

Anonymous, 18 Apr 2023Such camera oriented phone should have a headphone jack for... moreThis is exactly the reason why I sold my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra and got a Sony Xperia 1 iv. The Sony is a completely different universe altogether with the camera's true-to-life image processing and the headphone jack for external mic. I never think I ever miss my old S22 Ultra at all.

Anonymous, 18 Apr 2023I own brand new 13 Pro, before i had 3 other Xiaomi models ... moreHave you ever use MIUI for Redmi and Poco phones? You wouldn't say that if you did. It was my biggest regret ever. Luckily I know a thing or two about custom ROM flashing, so it's not the end of the world.

Anonymous , 18 Apr 20238k will be ultimate useless 24 fps shoot. I'm not sure if I ever seen any phone that can do 8K/30fps with HDR10 other than the LG V60. Not that I ever shoot in 8K, but I did borrowed my friend's V60 to try it out and it was mesmerizingly amazing.

"Same trick all use on screens except samsung and apple"
Uh.. pixels on a CMOS sensor and dithering on a 8-bit display to emulate 10-bit colours are entirely separate matters and have no relevance to each other whatsoever.
"sensor that is capable of doing 12MP@50fps@10bit is not gonna keep 50fps if using 12bit"
Nowhere in the live presentation actually mentioned that this mode will be available in 50MP (I don't know where GSMArena got that piece of information from), so that part remains to be seen. I don't mind if the output "RAW" file is a "real" undemosaicked RAW or demosaicked linear dng, as long as they aren't adding a stupid amount of sharpening to the image I'm fine with it.
"Remember you swore Samsung could do raw while frame stacking 108MP"
I never swore anything like that, though? One time I did say several GCAM ports are capable of stacking in high-resolution mode and giving you almost artifact-free 50MP "real" RAW on Mi 10 Ultra, but I didn't mention Samsung in my comment.

TheLastOracle, 18 Apr 2023Hardware wise, this seems like a winner. Especially for pho... moreBut the resolution is half of the story. If a pixel is small, then the resolution of the image starts to be limited by the diffraction of the light. So with higher resolution companies should increase also sensor size.
