MediaTek Dimensity 8050 official with 3GHz prime CPU core

09 May 2023
That's the third name for the same chipset after the Dimensity 1200 and Dimensity 1300.

The highest-clocked LPDDR4X used in a mobile phone is the aforementioned 2133 MHz (LPDDR4X-4266), which is just a hair slower than the pedestrian LPDDR5-4800 running at 2400 MHz.

Anonymous, 09 May 2023since when D1200 become flagship?Since it was a successor of D1000, which challenged SD855, D1200 challenged the 865, and by extension, the 870. D1200 lost the fight, but made it up for lower power usage than the 888, which was Qualcomm's flagship at the time. Also, since it was the highest MediaTek SoC of the time, it was technically their flagship. Indeed it only competes with Qualcomm's second-best chip but it was still the best MTK had to offer before the resurgence of Dimensity with the 9000

Dimensity 1100/1200/1300's LPDDR4X all run at 2133MHz instead of SD865's 2750MHz, not to say top-notch LPDDR4X 3200MHz. The slowest LPDDR5 also runs at 3200MHz.

Obisco, 09 May 2023Absolute crap. Lpddr4x in 2023?High-end LPDDR4X chips can run at speeds closer to entry level LPDDR5. It uses slightly lower power, and it's noticeably cheaper, so phones with it can be sold at lower prices. And it only costs a negligible difference in performance, provided both chips run within similar config (e.g comparing 4x 16-bit LPDDR4X to a 4x 16-bit LPDDR5)

Anonymous, 09 May 2023the same sh*t sd680 rebranding sagaAt least SD680 and 685 keeps on raising its A73 clocks. This one is merely a marketing stunt to revive a 2-year-old flagship chip and sell it as midrange SoC. The same has been done in Camp Qualcomm too with its SD 7+ Gen 2 - it's basically a downclocked, halved memory bandwidth version of SD 8+ Gen 1.

It doesn't run efficiently but at least not as bad as the notorious 8 Gen 1 or 888. It's true that MediaTek and other fabless SoC designer needs to improve more to gain dominance over Qualcomm, but I see they're trying and has since doing quite well with their all-new X200-series chips.

Besides, I have no clue why people want a really high benchmark on budget-midrange phones. A decent performing chipset, with good ISP, modem, Storage support and enough performance to play anything on medium-high graphics is more than enough for the average person.

Obisco, 09 May 2023Absolute crap. Lpddr4x in 2023?Whats wrong with lpddr4x ram sorry? Also yes if this is a mid range chip it'll use cheaper memory to run it with, not hard to understand really. Lpddr4x can reach up to the same clock speeds as lpddr5x in current 8g2 phones (4200mhz) so it'll just be slightly less efficient (you should be asking is it dual or quad channel, thats more important atm).

Literally nobody cares. MediaTek should just keep the names. Whats wrong with 1300 and 1200-
