Pei also revealed the rationale behind opting for the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip.

Trying to create hype on old chips as always.
It will come after the launch of sd 8 gen 3.
They will still ask for same price as gen 3 from companies like iqoo.

Hopefully we get a telecam and a good image sensor, a screen around 6.5inch, wireless charging. Then it ticks all my boxes.

Since they new. They shouldve gone for the 8 gen 2 or wait for 8 gen 3. Thats what oneplus did.

This choice of chipset is not inherently a bad thing. The only issue with this is that Nothing phone 1 was priced as a premium midranger so the Nothing phone 2 would most likely be priced as a proper flagship, not a flagship-killer, so for $800 or more, a current gen flagship chipset should be the choice.

Digdigfig, 19 May 2023I mean it is 3 generations old...Cars from less than 5 years ago are still considered relatively brand-new. Why can't the same philosophy be applied to phones as well? :((

Isn't the sd 7 g2 meant to be a similar core configuration to sd8 g1+
Why not continue with the 7 series?
Is it just 8 series has more marketing value or is there a problem with the new sd 7 series?

Also, 8g4 is tipped to cost 2x more than 8g3 because 3nm and nuvia design.

Ottonis, 19 May 2023"Pei also said that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was chosen... moreSnap 8gen1 needs 11.8W to reach 3600 Points in Geekbench 5 Multi core, the 8+gen1 only takes 5.6W for it. An efficiency increase for the CPU of over 100%, this isn't something you would call barley changed anything.

The difference isn't as huge with the GPU, but still significant.

Not in the mood to search for the specific numbers now, as geekerwans test of the 8gen2 didn't include a game comparison with the 8gen1, just the +gen1

Such good processor with remaining price. Nothing phone is underrated.

Anonymous, 19 May 2023I love how some ppl believe trading 8g2 for 8+g1 would make... moreI don't know how much a 8+gen1 does cost currently, but I do know that the 8gen1 came in at around 250$ for manufacturers.

Afterall, the 8gen2 does equal an 1050 + i7 9700k (better in single core taks than the i7, weaker in multi core). With much lower power consumption. So expect that thing to be worth around 200-250$ as well. While the 8+gen1 might have fallen off a lot.
Which may not make the phone 200$ more expensive to make, but to balance it out with the profit margin, probably 200 more to sell.

So it wont much matter on the modem anyways as it matters more on how far you are from the antennae that sends you the internet signal and how populated it is. Also for gaming the difference is like 140k in antutu v9 benchmark score for the 725 and 730. In these numbers something 970k vs 11M is nothing you can make difference. Maybe 1-2 fps difference in some heavy games on heavy loading or something

With 7+G2 they can just get the price lower even tough it be still expensive just like the Nothing Phone 1 was with SD778+ in it

Even tough 870 actually isnt new gen as after 865 the 870 was like different clock version and didnt make it on new flagships of the year and was more in the middle class price phones
