Mediatek Dimensity 9300 tipped to only feature powerful cores

30 May 2023
The chip might have a 4x Cortex-X4 + 4x Cortex-A720 architecture.

Super Android 22, 31 May 2023I'd have removeable battery over either of those featu... moreit's because the phone companies are forcing us to not use them

Anonymous, 30 May 2023You've got the same thing with Qualcomm : 855->860... moreI expected people to reply this. The problem is that Qualcomm put former FLAGSHIP into PREMIUM or MID-RANGE segment thus offering performance improvement, which is acceptable. While MTK deliberately released rebranded product into EXACTLY SAME segment and pretend AS IF THEY WERE NEW DESIGNS.

If you cannot see the difference that's your problem. If they rebrand D9000 as D8250 or D8300, just like 8+ Gen1->7+ Gen2, I have nothing to complain.

Super Android 22, 31 May 2023I'd have removeable battery over either of those featu... more1. A phone with 512GB or less of storage is useless to me, I have more apps and media than that. I'm not paying for 1TB of internal storage from Samsung when they're the ones that arbitrarily removed the SD card slot in the first place. I just refuse to support such a bs anti consumer business model.
      2. Same goes for the headphone jack, completely arbitrary. Also, you can't go off of how many users are currently using the feature. Because users have been forced into buying phones without the feature. Everybody I know, and I mean everybody, who has a headphone jack on their phone use it. Even the ones that don't have it use a dongle. If that doesn't prove that this has nothing to do with user demand, I don't know what does.

Some of these points apply to both features.

Probably no A520, but A510 instead to run legacy 32-bit code

Sounds like a laptop chipset or brick gaming device.

Those four X cores aren't going to be clocked the same, is my guess.

It is interesting though. Does this mean that Cortex X4 is much more power efficient than expected?

If it's a symbolic attempt to take the performance crown from Apple, it's not going to fare well. Apple can do that in a tiny package. This thing will require a brick form factor and special cooling.

PhoneFreak45, 30 May 2023Some changes we shouldn't be excited for, such as the ... moreI'd have removeable battery over either of those features, way more important specially on devices like sony, iphones, pixels etc which have 2 hour charging times. Also actual secure face unlock sensor is a way more useful feature aswell. Better yet what lg did with the g5 being semi modular would be the best option, get attachments with better DaC and headphone jack on it/battery extension etc.

Unfortunately the jack and sd slot are used by maybe 5% of total phone users now so a thing of the past, plus dongles exsist so companies will just think you'll get that or cloud storage instead of spending millions extra on redesigning millions of their devices and having to increase prices to rog/xperia levels (like £1400 or more, you're s23u and iphone 14 pro max would cost £1600 or more to make back profit).

I'm surprised by so much disbelief in the comments. It's not even that farfetched. This is essentially what Apple has been doing with their 6 core SoCs.

                They should make 10 core architecture 2x X4 4x A720 and 4X A520. It could be beast.
Right here right now i worry for battery little bit but believe they will solve this somehow.

Just because a processor *can* be fed a bunch of power, doesn't mean it has to be. The steam deck for example can be throttled down to even just 10 watts. Not to mention apple silicon has already been beat in certain areas. The Pixel 7 Pro can easily beat the iPhone 14 pro in lumafusion, which is no small feat considering LumaFusion came out on android recently while they've had a lot of time to develop it for iOS.
