Apple Vision Pro is introduced as the first "spatial computer", not a mere AR/VR headset

-Trix-, 05 Jun 2023Future is here and it's very expensive, but oneday all... moreI believe artificial intelligence is the future. But it's also scary enough to kill us all like what happened in The Matrix. I do love the idea of computer chips in our brain. Learning kung-fu in a matter of minutes once it's uploaded.
Wouldn't it be cool if we can digitally store our memories into a microchip. We clone ourselves and upload the memories onto that body. We could live forever if that was the case. Our consciousness needs to remain alive to keep us alive. Our bodies can change from a physical clone.
I'm already thinking of the tech beyond smartphones which doesn't excite me like they used to.

Yea, right. Cause it's too much for a VR headset. How do we justify a price. Let's call it something famcy, they will buy it

Honestly if you gonna burn 3.5K USD
Why not spend 1.5k instead buy a solar power station instead like the pecron e2000lfp
Buy the additional battery packs with the change to a 8KW and buy a few standing solar panels
And just like that you can run your whole house on free sun energy if the electric grid is up or not , doesn't matter if you rent the place or if you own it
Is that a better investment than an AR/VR system from apple that in itself runs on electricity ⚡???

IpsDisplay, 05 Jun 2023Id argue that's it's still not reasonable This... moreI'm anxious to buy one, do not touch it, save it in a safe for 20 years and then sell it online for a fortune!

-Trix-, 05 Jun 2023Future is here and it's very expensive, but oneday all... moreI think the next step would be to remove the wire with the battery pack while not making the headset heavier. That would make the biggest difference, and for that there need to be massive improvements in battery technology. I‘d be surprised if we got even that in 10 years while keeping the current form factor of the headset itself. Battery technology has been really slow to improve in the past 10 years. It has the M2 which means the battery needs to be the size of like an iPad Pro and MacBook Air, potentially even bigger because of the added R1 chip. (The screen is smaller, but also micro-OLED which I have never heard before, so that could potentially consume more power.) Also, depending on whether we will use this as much as our phones in the future, 2 hours is not a lot. For now it is but if we want like up to 10 hrs SoT right now in a phone and have that in this headset as well, the size of the battery and/or improvements in component efficiency will have to be 5x while making this thick external power bank be light enough to not be noticed while built into the headset. So yeah, the white wire on this will probably be around as long as the white wires of the headphones that Apple started to ship with iPod (2001 to 2016, 15 years?).

AnonD-1101735, 05 Jun 2023Sure, 3.5k is a lot of money, but for a product with these ... moreId argue that's it's still not reasonable
This is the usual beta tester TAX
Seeing that it's a gen 1 product it's depreciation/irrelevance will be swift (aside from collectors)
I'll wait for the market to mature more with much more players /innovation from competition

It’s actually a reasonable price for the high end specs meant to be used by professionals like Microsoft’s Holo Lens. Totally different market to something like the Quest 3. I can imagine the tech will come down in price eventually.

Future is here and it's very expensive, but oneday all this fit into size of normal glasses and then we all have something like this, this will change everything and will fastforward future, Google and others will start doing something like this and AR/VR industry goes forward like crazy, just what the industry been waiting and needing. Think what we have in 10 years.

Anonymous , 05 Jun 2023But the first iPhone wasn't very expensive lol compare... moreIt was $499 with a contract. That's probably more expensive than the Pro Max, without accounting for inflation. The first iPhone was extremely expensive, and got several price drops until the iPhone 3G replaced it at an even lower price (and plastic back to save money).

Anonymous, 05 Jun 2023But can it actually do much more than Quest 3, especially w... moreIt can not sell your data to anyone who says "here" for one. Apple and Google etc. all have their faults, but Meta is the worst American company I know (probably even worse than Coca Cola) and I would never willingly buy one of their products. Only thing I have to use is WhatsApp because everyone uses it.

Sure, 3.5k is a lot of money, but for a product with these kind of specs it's reasonable
There isn't quite anything like it on the market, and the app integration is going to be great
