PVS2 is the original and this overpriced copy will be available not before 2024. I have played PSVR2 and its eye-tracking is already magical.
Apple just tries to blend with high-end hardware but does not bring anything new to the table that could be seen as groundbreaking.
Unfortunately, many tech sites do not know much about existing VR headsets and believe Apple would have invented the wheel.

Now, Apple has created their own VR headset. When will they create their own AR glasses like in the movie Mission Impossible?

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2023Won’t go into detail but „rubbish contrast“ can’t already b... moreMy bad, I thought based on the imagery and how gsmarena wrote that this was not just another VR headset with AR capability, same as many others. I got the impression of true mixed reality, hence the black level and contrast limitation would depend on ambient light and your real world view, which is wrong I see.

Went to LTT for a quick summary and seems this is just another standalone VR headset with AR-video and an external display to show your eyes, not transparent OLED. I though it was true AR/XR in line with HoloLens, but it's just VR-headset with AR capability and, an a gimmick external display to show your eyes - in case you want to use your VR headset in public?

Gsmarena did a good job making this VR headset seem like something beyond that :-)

I think AR is cool and theres no denying the headset is impressive. Its also borderline useless compared to the products its trying to replace. A proffessional will not get one to edit a 4k video, or mix a song, or develop a game or app. The average person wont spend 3.5k on a headset that only does what the devices they already own do. And nobody in their right mind will walk around all the time with this thing on their face, were not a dystopia and maybe we should keep it that way.

It's just reimagine of VR market. VR is so niche and never took of because of comfortability problems and wires. We still have wires and I am sure wearing this crap all day is not possible no matter what, also as cool as it looks all the virtual graphics and so, you will get bored eventually and tired of it like we did with previous VR iterations. 3499 is just DOA, this will fail miserably. I know Apple will try to make it cheaper for masses, but this will definitely not going to work. Until they get rid of cables and make headset work at least a day without recharging this VR thing will never materialize.

May be useful for gami... moreWho wants to game with a black level only as black as your walls, or whatever else you are facing? The background would be uneven unless you literally sit facing a blank (preferably black) wall. Might as well just use a proper TV then, or VR glasses starting at $300.

With VR, which is completely blacked out, you can game, watch TV/movies etc. and if OLED have inky blacks. In augmented/mixed reality, you can only have that when watching a black wall. The limitation of image quality will be similar as projector. The more ambient light, the weaker black level and contrast, and if not projected/displayed over a uniform surface then image quality suffers.

For end consumers to truly enjoy AR/XR, we need normal sized glasses, or lenses and have it be useful on the go, like a HUD. Who is going to be using this outside in the ski google form?

Why would a family of four spend $14.000 for playing games or watching TV/movies in a worse way than a 75" budget TV at $800? Even IPS LCDs (the worst TVs) have significantly better blacks and contrast the AR/XR.

There is a very good reason why Microsoft, Lenovo and others are not really marketing their mixed reality sets for ordinary consumers yet, but enterprise.

Every time when I see in articles that statement I cant stop laughing, because this is most generic copy/paste you can imagine that have no use in real life.
Anyone who tried to actually use VR/AR for work(Like I mean work, not making ugly 3d paintings or making VR room for product display) know that its more useless than using pencil and paper to send email over wifi....
Its look cool on advertising video but, here, in real life, avoid it, I know some companies that spend lots of money on Microsoft HoloLens and VR goggles and now its gathering dust because after initial WOW effect no one can find use for it as creating assets for it is too expensive and time consuming.

Another HomePod filler product line. May be useful for gaming and few other situations which are rare for the most. Paying $3500+++ for that will be considered as waste. Also, for watching TV using this probably require content specifically for this device. 3D, VR/AI never really took off. It can never replace PC & Laptop convenience. Odd shape product can't be carried easily everywhere.
