The European Union is now considering to force all brands to have removable batteries. I've read it on the news 2 days ago. Forget about portless phones for a while. That's not going to happen anytime soon.
Also, if you have a bricked phone , the only way to revive it is by using a usb cable. Otherwise the pc will not detect the phone drivers, making it impossible to fix.
It's cool as a concept only. In real life you'll absolutely hate it.
I use my phone a lot, especially while charging. If the charging is wireless, you can't use the phone because it has to stay in a special position, otherwise it won't charge . That's a big NO-NO.

"Despite prophecies of doom in online communities, phones without a headphone jack sell in the tens of millions"- poor excuse.
Because they've been removed in almost every phone so that there's very little option with a headphone jack. In flagship, only Sony offers it. ROG phones are gaming phones. Zenfone isn't exactly flagship (no telephoto). You can see how limited the options are. First, let there be equal amount of phones of same tier with headphone jack as without it, then see if the latter is still sold in "tens of millions".

Portless phones are the future i only wonder why we dont have them yet.
There is no way that a cable will win this battle over a non cable device.
its either all in or back to the dark age of Flinstones era.

of course it will happen, apple can't wait and when they do the rest of the dumb sheep will follow. personally if the zenphone 10 does not have a headphone jack then the 9 will probably be my last ever mobile phone and i'll buy 4 of them to cover the next decade of use. no wired pc connector will be a no-go device for me also.

Lets be honest. Why ports are good??? To catch debris, moisture, liquids and dust??? No thanks.
Wireless is the future and portless is the future.
People deny it because they cant imagine a world without cables could be better but honestly it will be.
Those who cant accept revolution and evolution are cavemans not worthy of modern future like era. And should stay in their cave and stick to ancient garbage like tech from Flintones age.

Why not have both wireless and wired? People can show some advantages of wireless, but act like wired prevents it wich is absolutely false, just look at Xperia 1V. Headphone jack doesn't prevent Bluetooth and USB port doesn't prevent wireless charging. No matter how fast your wireless charging is, you cannot use your phone while it's ongoing and no matter how good Bluetooth is, it cannot match the ease and convenience of just plugging a headphone jack and not worry.
So we customers want both. We don't accept ridiculous excuses of OEMs to make more profit, be it thinner phones or bezels or environment or whatever.

This is why "wireless charging" is such a gimmick and always a dumb criticism if a phone omits it.
"Hurr durrr my phone is stuck on a charging pad, that makes it better than stuck to a cable"

Smartphones only replaces small compact cameras, not APS-C or full-frame devices.
Smartphones mostly replaces web browsing activity on PC and social network activity.
What really smartphones replaced is watches(in terms what is the time), GPS devices(e.g. garmin products), paper touristic maps, ...
Charging port in phone will be always smaller than chargin pad...power adapter + cable will be the same size and length.

Perhaps people aren't ready for portless phones yet
Better solution will be to remove the power and volume buttons and retain the wired port for transfers and charge

Remember when Apple reintroduced ports with the new MacBook Pros? Yeah, ports are there for a reason. We won’t be getting rid of ports, anytime soon at least. Wired charging is still faster, more efficient and as a result produces less heat. This pursuit of a device made from a single piece of glass with no buttons, ports or holes of any kind is silly at best…

Evening Star, 18 Jun 2023If ports go away, it kinda marks a huge downfall in the IEM... moreNot really, neckband and ear hook adapters there are. You certainly loose lossless, but it only depends on current tech which may change soon.
What they already lost in is lack of ANC, Auto EQ, Upsampling and other smart functions that improve overall listening experience.

With device endurance its like this: more moving parts - more prone to fail.
I used to love a jack in a jack removal time, but as the time goes I certainly do not use wire a lot, even though I know its of better quality - either its a time problem or lack of ANC or portability. In the end I build on quality end device, which also did help me in moving from cheap performance to premium one, even if with poorer connection.
Not true for every device and person, but for most its a way better experience than before.
Portless will surely also bring next lvl in design, more cable free experience and some eco friends will be happy too.

Probably it will happen, removing ports makes phone slimmer and smaller easier to manufactur, sounds like a future will be exactly like this, though definitely not a fan of it, limiting user just to wireless transfers never good idea, specifically where wireless data transfer are still slow and not as reliable as wired.
