Despite prophecies of doom in online communities, phones without a headphone jack sell in the tens of millions. But what about removing the USB-C port?

And, there are dirt cheap tiny accessories that plug into the port in case your next complaint becomes "but they'll always be open and accumulate dust/dirt."

Why attack ports when they don't stop you from going wireless? Or are the two mutually exclusive? Why is thinking this difficult ffs? Manufacturers want you to buy accessories. More and more accessories. Usually expensive ones. Accessories you wouldn't have a need for if there's an alternative. They want their coffers to get fuller. And you? Just happy being swayed. SMH.

    as long as transferspeeds are still trash wireless/Can't compete with thunderbolt data transfer, portless phones will never be mainstream.

                Port on phones is not only for charging phones. It is also needed for sending software to phones, configuration, troubleshooting, etc.
                When those can be done wirelessly, then phones could be portless.

                      If it really is a future, it better be as far as possible. Personally I'd prefer if not only the USB port, but also headphones jack and infrared ports were standard.

                              Port-less phones is not going to take off anytime soon since cable is needed to restore firmware. If phone manufacturers can find a way to receive huge firmware files over the air without booting into OS, it is possible to release port-less phones

                                Most file transfers happen over the internet XD. So detached from how normal people use their phones.

                                    Nothing will ever just dissappear completely. Has 3.5mm jack dissappeared ? No . It is most relevant to gamers . Mobile gaming industry is swarming with potential like flees in fish market . Even after cloud gamingit'll persist

                                      i just did a comment in relame poll from last week, all this talk of wireless headphones being good, and no sd slot being acceptable. you all miss the point of them. wired headphones play all quality of sound, wireless only does upto 192kbps. you want 320, wav, flac standard you can only get that from wired. sd slots allow for storage and tranfer of data with no mess, when they take away the charge port there will be no secure way to talk to another device.
