Jesman9608, 18 Jun 2023I'll definitely like it. Portless phones makes them ac... moreIt is maybe advance for phone, but step back for charger it self...look how big wireless chargers are. Not good solution if you want to take it with you.
Something similar happened to smartphones too...thanks to impractical too wide display aspect ratio, which is now good only for watching movies from cinema production. Look where people carry their phones...in the pocket on their assses, or just constantly holding in hand.

I hope not.
ESIM or ISIM, the lack of 3.5 mm connector, I can understand and see why and how that wouldn't ve a major issue.
No USB port, I see it as a major issue. First it blocks a lot of things (from charging, USB alt modes, direct interaction with a PC, even debugging).
Then wireless is more inefficient for charging than wired. And from a simple customer point of view, you then need at least one item more to put into your bag. USB A port is well spread and most time you find a connector in train, bus or hotel, you just need to have the cable. For wireless charging you need the wireless charger part too. If you only have have mains supply you need the USB charger too.
Additional new regulatory in EU will demand that the battery is user replacable, without special tools (no glue or solder AFAIK). What will increase the difficulty for very fast charging in general as you need to have the connectors that support the high charging current. (100 W charging equals to around 25 A current.)
For no SD card that limits a phone very much. You simple give up freedom to have the ability to upgrade memory and instead depend on your phone maker how much space and how much that space will cost you. Also if you run out of space, you need to buy either a new phone or limit yourself.

Wireless docks are big and bulky. And it is far less efficient than wired. Mostly useless.

Yes, they are the future even though most people dont care and enthusiasts dont want them. They are the future because 5 companies control 80% of the smartphone market and 2 companies control 100% of OS market and its very easy for them to coordinate and make unwelcome changes together, and consumers have no choice or chance to stop them.

I'll definitely like it. Portless phones makes them actually better sealed, so no water or dust can come ibto it. The only important thing is to make wireless charging as much efficient as it can be, and it will be definitely a great advance in a phone.

1. Wired chargers are much smaller, because no need for landing deck for phone :D .
2. Give me wireless(wifi/BT) files transfer to PC faster than USB-C 2.0(zen8) and I will be happy. In case USB 3.0+ it is mission impossible. I tried copy one large file from zen8 to PC(ASUS B560-PLUS WIFI) using wifi6 and the best lucky result was 25MB/s using special app. So still slow and unpractical.
3. "Most data transfers go over the Internet..." -it is valid for instagram bitch*s :D. The rest needs for example transfer camera videos to PC for video editing or just recompressing. Copying files to other devices will be still needed.
4. headphone jack - people making sport(and not only this activity) loves wireless ear buds. Give me battery life at least as great as the phones music playback time and maybe I will love them too. Recharging box does not count as it can't garantee continuous music playback.

Portless phones our future. We never need any hole on telephone's to build perfect Water Proof Phones. We have wireless chargers, we have Bluetooth Tech, We have Touch Buttons... Producers easily can build 50 Meters/100 Feets Water Resist phones. I'm sure a few phones will come with Scuba Mode, 300 Water & High Pressure Resist, small caliber bullet proof phones. So you can throw away your phone, without any doubt; when you get angry or dissatisfied. Thanks High Tech.

iphone will be the first port-less phone, because they like to remove everything. even their current usb is also very limited in use... transfers are slow and charging is also slow.

Anders, 18 Jun 2023From article; "So our question for today is this – you... moreMost phones with both IOS and ANDROID becomes useless between 5 - 10 years.
I don't think you used any phone till 5 - 10 year, hence you are speaking like that.
Although map, browser, calculator, youtube, call, sms will continue to work but depends on various things.
So, don't hope like that.
What will you to in 2050 after 27 years since 2023 ?
Just think like that.

if the trends drag humanity to the port-less communication gadgets and none of the government can say no, it means we all know that planet earth goes towards one world communist government, where every single information are carefully stored to be further fabricated ... notice carefully ... ai, cloud, quantum computing, wireless ... worldwide espionage made easy, just compete on software, have the 7 billions earth population spend money on espionage hardwares ... live long and prosper

Anonymous, 18 Jun 2023Same here
Will never buy any phone which doesnt have 3.5... more50 percent of new phones launching in market nowadays either don't have headphone jack or else the charger inside the box.
Don't think like that as that will be normal in future like old phones used to come with headphones inside the box and nowdays not company provides headphones inside the box.
That is somewhat monopoly of companies.
But to survive tough competetion they reduce costs and try to increase sales by addopting such crazy tactics.
I'm not sure but if the companies continue to adopt such tactics then i'm sure in future around 2050 - 2080 we will just have to place our order with requirement and money, after that they will manufacture the device and send us the product, kind of Sci-Fi but looks like future will be like that, a joke.

No, Wireless changing is pure garbage. USB-C is also needed for OTG drives and other OTG stuffs. Portless is purely an insane idea. And 3.5mm need to return. Every single vision Apple has for phones and others are following are bad idea for consumers.

Perhaps in 50 years. By then tech will be much different than now, and only then can we accurately assess whether wireless interfaces is the more logical approach.
But as of now, and as of the next 10 years, definitely not.
