Weekly poll results: port-less phones may be an unfortunate future, according to most

25 June 2023
Few are enthusiastic about this possible future, but hopes that the EU will prevent it may be barking up the wrong tree.

I wish to add that for a brief period of time, Mi became No. 1 in India leaving Samsung behind. Reasons you can guess.
Eventually, over a period of time, companies can force such anti-consumer decisions (jack removal, microSD slot removal) because many customers are turning 18 yr old everyday and buying new phones, they'll never know what convenience means because they were kids.
New market keeps developing everyday.
But, clearly, it doesn't mean a good decision by the company. Wrong is wrong. Choice is always good.

blue, 26 Jun 2023You really don't know what you are talking about. Micr... moreErr.. not.
1TB capacity is often prohibitively expensive in any phone, often double the base variant, plus its not removable. Anything goes wrong big time, and say goodbye to the data. MicroSD might be slower, but it still takes care of everything from 8K video recording to viewing and editing and all. (provided you buy a proper speed rated, branded, original one)

Plus, bluetooth audio quality is way lower. I'm a LG G8x owner and I didn't know music can be this good, before owning it.
Plus, in gaming, bluetooth latency troubles gamers. Also, you can't use bluetooth mic for video recording in any Android, its a system setting. Also, bluetooth mic can't be used for voice recording as well in most phones.
So, the bluetooth mic is a joke, no where close to the true replacement you want it to be.

Please bruh, change your opinion. Your kind are causing damage to the market.

You both basically agree that wired and wireless are not the same, and the former is superior.

blue, 26 Jun 2023You really don't know what you are talking about. Micr... moreCan you remove that superfast internal storage? No.
Can you get 0.000ms delay with latest BT and with uninterrupted connection? No.
Again and again I repeat, we just want choices so it makes more sense to include all features then we can choose which to use. No one is at disadvantage and everyone is happy. Easy.
I do embrace new tech. I use MacbookPro with wireless keyboard & mouse, also have PC where I use wired mechanical keyboard. My headset is BT but WITH 3.5mm jack included. See? It's all about the choice. In flagship phones, there is no choice at all.
You're not answering my questions because you don't have the answer, do you?

My post was easy to read and understand. You made no effort to engage in the topic with sincerity.

I'll be the bigger man, and leave you wallowing in your own ignorance. I don't think any further discussion will be fruitful.

But as a parting gift for fellow readers, will leave these food-for-thoughts:
Sony removed the Headphone Jack on the Xperia Z2 and Xperia 1. They cited "market trends". And they reversed those decisions. A year and half later, and their mobile division didn't really suffer, but it did do a bit better. Similar happened with Samsung they DID infact remove the microSD slot on their flagship phones (S6 lineup). They cited a technical problem, but they lied. There was some backlash from reviewers and public. It didn't take long for Samsung to re-introduce that feature back the very next year (S7 lineup). But the biggest trend has been that Samsung phones have slowly and slowly become more iPhone like: Raised Prices, Glass Backs, Notch holes, No microSD slot, No Headphone jack, No FM radio, No IrDa Blaster, Sealed Battery units, No Charger in box, No accessories in box, etc etc. However, you can't compare a Galaxy to an iPhone, that's apples to oranges. What differentiates iPhone from a Samsung is not the lack of features; it's the ecosystem, software, and the brand. Samsung doesn't have a direct competitor to Apple when it comes to that.

Also the ONLY way to know the validity of the microSD slot, (or Headphone Jack, FM radio, IrDa Blaster, User Removable Battery, etc etc) and other features is this: sell one flagship phone with the feature and sell another variant without, make them same availability, same marketing, and same price, and compare how the market responds. I will wager that the More Features phone will win out every time.

MicroSD has already been replaced by large storage capacities (you can have 1 TB of ultra fast storage in your phone, if you want). Jack was replaced by BT.

Unrooted phones can self recover to its original firmware. That’s the point of recovery mode. So Android going portless will be fine, unlike dumb iOS that cannot even self recover.

You can't declare anything obsolete, which doesn't have a proper replacement yet.

Although, I'd disagree about Sony. I agree Sony is a choice, but its a very expensive one, almost equal to no choice. At least proper 3 makers should exist, in my opinion.

Flashdrives need to ... morejust ignore them anyway, i cant comprehend his comments. probably an wireless elitist who recently got an iphone 7 plus😂😂😂😂 those features you mentioned he called "ancient technology" or "stuck in 2009" he may not know that those features are still used in other devices such as portable speakers, laptops and desktop computers. even midranger phones have sd and 3.5mm, i bet he would call them 2009 touch screen phone also. he likes to describe greed as market reality.

I voted "wireless charging is never going away".
Let me clear, I'm not in objection if there're upto 4-5 portless phones for the market for all my brothers/sisters who'd love one...
My objection is, if the entire market picks up this useless trend and I, the power user don't have a choice left..

GSMA staff: A small note: There could be a typo in "Xiaomi and Oppo don’t want to use their superfast charging"... I think you mean "don't want to LOSE...".

Also, I think the future is, magnetic pin charging, and a similar magnetic pin for 3.5mm ear/headphones. It would be best of all worlds, portless+useful, although USB disconnected abruptly might kill the phone in same cases, so they gotta be careful.

Except all else isn't equal. Wired headphones are superior to wireless except for the convenience factor.

Whatever you do or spend billions of $ on research, bluetooth device audio will not compete with wired device audio in quality.
Whoever are in favour of wired earphones are preferring audio quality over wireless convenience.

USBto3.5mm dongle is not a replacement. It's a compromise and a hassle. Bleutooth is not more advanced tech compare to analog, it's an alternative.
What is it that makes people like you hates convenient things like sdcard and 3.5mm jack? If those still exist in all phones, do they make you phone slower or interfere with water resistance? No. There's no effect at all. We as a customer has a right to have as many options as possible. Whether we use those features or not, that's up to us. Again, we just want to have the choice. Sony is the only phone maker still give those features in a flagship, it means that I don't have a choice, right?
